American Sniper

Spoiler to True story? Wouldn't that be kind of like saying Abe Lincoln dying at the end of Lincoln is a spoiler? My bad since you didn't know the story though, I'll put a warning.

Except it's not that common of knowledge. I guarantee a large portion of the audience doesn't know what happened to him.

Yea it's hard for me to keep my attention on a book.. Just how I'm wired.. I'll start one then I'll lay it down.. Anything else you wanna know?

Im the same way. And I'll read something and forget what i just read. Like it goes in one ear and out the other.

not sure i agree with that. 7.6 on IMDB isn't shabby. not great by any means, but mediocre? would say that for a movie below the 7 range.

My scale changes depending on the type of movie. American Sniper is a big budget, crowd-pleasing drama, so for that type of movie, I mostly find 7.6s to be kind of meh.

Conversely, Foxcatcher is a 7.4, but that's an independent artsy movie. There are a lot of independent 7.4s that I like.

Almost anything over 8 is must see.

That makes no sense

Do you use IMDB to select movies to watch? If you did, it probably would make sense. Spend enough time on there and you'll quickly find out great comedies have the same ratings as average dramas. You can't just go off the number, you have to account for the type of movie.

No i don't but i like movies based on if i like it or not, not whether its a big budget movie or a low budget movie that's slightly better than the big budget movie. If it's better then it's better.

Are people liking this movie? Audience rating of 7.6 is pretty mediocre.

I just finished watching it. Good movie but like all war movies or the like I guess it's not for everybody. Focuses a lot on PTSD. Sad how he died after all he had went through.

A lot of people who haven't even seen the movie are going to imdb and giving it a 1 rating to lower it because of Chris lying in the book. Without all that it would prob be in the top 250 or close to it.

Really? Am I doing that poor of a job communicating myself? I don't like a movie based on its budget. That's not what I said at all.

I prefer rotten tomatoes

They are similar and it does have the advantage of the critics ratings of being separate, but I've found their site to be less able to predict how much I'll like a movie. The combined critic and user ratings on IMDB rarely fail me.

To each their own. RT had a cool tool that allowed you to see what critics most aligned with you. That way I built a rating using just those critics.

I think they must have done away with it, or moved it to another part of the site, but I still look for those particular critics
