American Sniper

Saw the movie yesterday, Cooper did an excellent job but the movie itself wasn't very good. Eastwood dropped the ball and made a movie without a message.

Not impressed.

Kinda peppering every thread with this huh?

Are people missing the point with this movie? I see everyone saying great things about the military after seeing the movie but I kinda feel dirty after watching it. I feel this way because I think that's what Eastwood was really trying to do here: illustrate the psychological damage of war, and how the USA often glosses over such a serious issue (PTSD) as long as we 'win'. Of course I felt proud of the military after the movie, but at the same time I just felt guilty. Like really guilty. Anyone else feel this way?

Guilty of what? I havent seen the movie yet.

Took my dad to see it tonight. It was good, but I was left wanting for more. It just seemed to barely touch on the effects of war on the psyche/PTSD, but could have gone so much deeper.

As to the Kyle bashing: his wartime feats seem to have been confirmed, and I know I'd be a crazed lunatic had I gone through 1/10th of the action he saw. So, I'll give him a pass on whatever he said or did once back in the lap of luxury.

It keeps rolling in the money!

Its projected Domestic Total as of Jan. 25, 2015: $200,137,000 (Estimate)
American Sniper is now the #13 film of 2014.

When the actual totals are in it could be the #12 film and will have surpassed Godzilla (2014) which is currently the #12 film of 2014.

Over the weekend it passed the following....
#14. 22 Jump Street
#15. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
#16. Interstellar
#17. How to Train Your Dragon 2
#18. Gone Girl
#19. Divergent
#20. Neighbors
#21. Ride Along

Saw it yesterday at a 12:20pm showing. I must say that I was amazed that it was sold out at that time, especially being that it has been out for a bit now.

And who knows angry better than Howard Dean...

Saw it last night. Really hits home on the effects of war on the mind. I don't know if i could return to a normal life after going through what he did.

I don't see how anyone could. Many don't, and illustrating that was Eastwood's intent. All controversy aside, the psychological effects of the horrors of war are undeniable.

I starting thinking i'd almost rather stay over there til it was over instead of the back and forth. It was a good movie. When Clint dies we're going to lose a great actor, great director and a guy that stands for everything this place was founded on.

I thought Gran Torino was his best film ever.. This one is pretty good too.

If no one has been through or had family go through PTSD they should count them selves lucky. I can still remember my dad waking up in the middle of the night screaming and trying to climb under the bed yelling " Incoming " and seeing him soaking wet in sweat. He spent 25 yrs in a bottle trying to forget and it only made it worse.

Same with my papaw and the bottle, Korean War Vet

Saw it last night and enjoyed it. Some of the home scenes were a little long and the long shot scene was a bit overdone but still worth it
