Andrew Harrison - Post Game

Black and white people shouldn't be using the N word, period. You don't hear white people calling each other cracker or whitey so the same should be for black people. They're demeaning themselves and perpetuating the use of the N word when they do that. People making an excuse for Harrison because he's "young" is also stupid. He's 20 years old, he's responsible, he shouldn't have said any of it and he knows he was wrong for it. He's a classless sore loser as are the other two guys that walked off without shaking hands.

Then I won't tell you about the stupid stuff I said when I was 40, let alone 20. Now that I am in my 50s I think I am perfect in all situations, but I am not sure.

Pretty stupid comment after a tough loss. If he is legitimately sorry for the mistake it can be just chalked up to a bad moment. Only he knows the answer to that so the rest is just something to talk about other than the game.

What makes it insane to me is the flippant use of such a demeaning word.

I agree. It is interesting though. They took a word that was easily the worst word you can call that particular race and over time they have really just redefined it completely. Kinda cool, really, from a sociological standpoint.

Scroll back in all of the Kentucky threads. It's been discussed ad nauseum.

I'll summarize the discussion:

"Did you hear what Andrew Harrison said post-game?"
"What an idiot! He must be a racist!"
"Well, he IS black, so he gets to use that word."
"You're a racist for suggesting that too!"

Most agree in the end that while a stupid thing to say, he did apologize, and pro scouts agree that it will not affect his draft status per articles that came out today. Finally, most reasonable people agree that although a stupid and vulgar comment, it was certainly not intended in a racist manner.

Well duh, black people can't be racist. How silly.

How about the "F" part? No worries there either?

And I have zero doubt, that if he'd have said cracker or honky or white boy, or whatever he wanted, it would've been brushed off too. He could've said whatever he wanted there and it would've gotten the same "meh" response. Kaminsky on ther hand would've gotten no such pass even he had only said "F Harrison" without the slur. He would've been called racist and everything else under the sun and we all know it. It just is what it is.

The F part doesnt bother me. Most people his age drop the F bomb so much it has no effect. Its just accepeted in that age group/culture. It really isnt a big deal...

if he would have said honky or cracker there would have been a big deal made of it.

Cauley Stein also did a great job representing UK. Nice walk off.

Feel bad for him most of all.

NIT, Champ game, Final Four. Lottery pick for sure, and probably wants to come back but knows he has a lot to lose if he underperforms.

I think hes the most overrated out of that whole group.

Townes is the legit big in that group. Hes gonna be very good at the next level.

Maybe he got a tattoo on his forehead last night to lift his spirits.

They should pay the Harrison clip during this awkward "One Shining Moment" montage.

Booker and Lyles are being overrated more than WCS imo. WCS is gonna be drafted high for his defense. If a NBA team ever teaches him offense then it'll be worth it.

Maybe he got a tattoo on his forehead last night to lift his spirits.

hopefully some tears going down his cheeks.

White guy says nigga, then he is racist despite context. Black guy says it and we excuse his dumbness. So the white guy is punished for knowing not to say it, but a black guy says it and he isn't smart enough to know better? Our reaction is racist.

Not exactly apples and apples but it does have a lot of similarities. Let's be honest though, the main difference is who was on the receiving end.

No one denies the existence of the double standard here, I'm just not sure why it's worth getting all bent out of shape over it.

It's as though some of you want to use the word so badly, but you're afraid of the ramifications....OR more likely you want Harrison to face the same criticism a white person would by making a racial slur about blacks.

America's history on race relations makes the latter almost impossible...right, wrong or otherwise.

There is no context outside of "and then he said..." that makes it acceptable.

Are white people really upset that this word is off limits? Are all of you who are complaining so vigorously really that upset that you can't say it to black people? Seems like a bunch of misplaced outrage if that's not the case

I really think that a majority hate the hypocrisy. There is an organization that fights for equality however equality is not what they want. If it was what they wanted, then all people would be treated the same when similar actions occurred. People upset are angered that a white person loses his job if this happened to them and it is simply brushed off as a silly comment when a black guy says it. I am upset not because of the word, but because of what would have happened if Kaminsky had said it about Harrison.
My point is and was, I think the African American community should be upset that all people brush it off as a dumb mistake made by a young black kid. However, a white kid does same act and he's smart enough to know better. Find me the equality in that scenario. Also, it's a pretty racist take considering one guy is smart and one guy is dumb based solely on his race.

I think the middle paragraph is what most on this thread are arguing. To be honest, I don't care one way or the other really. Having said that if we truly want to strive for equality.....well its an all or none thing if you want most people to get on board.

If Kaminsky would have said that Al Sharpenton and Jesse Jackson wouldn't have let him get on the bus to go to the stadium last night. Yet I haven't heard them speak about Harrison!

That's exactly why people get angry over this. If we were equal, then harrison should face punishment but because he's black we feel that he gets away with it. Some people feel that if he had been white he would have been crucified. Example, Paula Deen admitted to using the word. That's it and she was canned for admitting that she uttered the n word.

I understand how a younger generation of white people would be upset over being held to a different standard based on the sins of past generations.

I'm not saying it's right, and it's not necessarily fair, but we all understand the underlying reasons why the double standard exists.

I think we all understand that a double standard exists, however the "why" to the double standard is not exactly clear.
