announced position changes

This is why I was not on board with so many posters freaking over not signing another TE. They now have 5 schollie TE's with King's move. He will be used at H-back as well. They can redshirt one or two barring any injury issues.

Brewer was tried at LB before, right?

Yeah, and Dooley kept saying how good he was doing only to put him back at safety.?.?. But them asshats didn't know what they were doing. They also moved Teague to DB, Neal to WR, and Fugate to LB. The Fugate to LB might work, time will tell. But Fugate was poised to be a beast NFL type FB/H-Back. Could run, catch, pancake block. Dooley benched him at FB after a blowout loss at UGA for simply making freshman mistakes. The Neal and Teague moves...just dumb.

Justin King is going to be a very very good TE. I've been calling for this for awhile now so glad to see this move by CBJ. He'll excel at this position and he's a great athlete.

Moving Vereen to DE and moving Brewer to LB to me shows that we're returning to the Chavis/ U of Miami style of defensive , where the DE's are what used to be interior LB's, the exterior LB's are what used to be safeties, and the safeties are what used to be the slower CB's and the CB's are the fastest players on the team, outside the WR's. If so, I like it because if ever a year showed that speed is of the essence in football, it was the horror show that was last year's D.

You really mean undersized,,

What is the Leo dl position

weak side de, I believe. Typically the name is associated with 43 under fronts. So he will be coming off the weak edge and ruining a qb's night.

I'd expect Williams on the strong side, and playing inside a lot. It should look a lot like a 34(don't panic).

From today's press conference:
"Devrin Young, who was a running back in the past will be moved to slot receiver and so he will get some repetitions in the slot and we'll move him, you might see him at running back as well, but right now he's getting full repetitions that he needs to learn the slot position. We moved Brent Brewer to linebacker. Brent has done a great job, he's had a tremendous spring. Another individual who we've made a change in positions is a true freshman, Corey Vereen. We moved him to our defensive end position. We need some disruptive, quick playmakers on the edge of our defense and so we look to him. Also, Jacques Smith will be more in our Leo defensive line position, Justin King at tight end, just to name a few. I'm very encouraged so far with what I've seen from Brent (Brewer), he's doing a great job."

Doesn't spring practice start tomorrow? Seems a little premature imo.

If I recall, he was moving to LB but ended up getting hurt and he wasn't able to learn enough of the new position without contact to make it worth leaving him there.

Not sure about the Young move--I like him as a speed back more than I like him as a wannabe Tavon Austin--but the other moves are definitely good ones, especially Brewer's. I don't trust him to cover as well as a safety should.

We have 2 proven rb's returning. How many proven wr's do we have?

It's funny that Brewer was originally a class of '06 WR prospect committed to Fsu. He's now, in 2013 playing lb at UT.. Funny how things work out..

Our new asst strength coach started as a RB, safety, then moved to LB were he played in Canadian football league.

Straight beast. Too bad he played in the Ray Lewis era, because he was kinda overshadowed by Lewis IMO. Wasn't better than Lewis but due to all the Ray Lew pub I kinda feel Urlacher got sold way short. JMO

My second favorite Bear all time behind Sweetness obviously.

My least favorite Bear...Rex effing Grossman. If I ever see him I will punch him in his face and I swear I will. That's all...

I don't care how proven they are. Have confidence in the talent you recruited. The last time we switched someone away from their better position because of "need," we ruined Marsalis Teague's career.

Have you ever heard of Al Wilson or Jason Witten?

Brewer was supposed to be in the 2006 class? What's his age, Leon Sandcastle?

Butch didn't recruit Devrin though, who is to say that if Butch had recruited him that he wouldn't have recruited him as a wr instead of a rb?
