Man, I am excited about this upcoming season! I think we have a coach that may actually win a game or two we are not supposed to this year!! Everything I read about this guy is stand up!!

Have you ever heard of Al Wilson or Jason Witten?

Wow, you're telling me switches work sometimes?!?! I had no idea!!

You're missing the point. Switches can work if the only criteria is where the player fits best at this level. If Jones thinks Young is a better WR than RB, I disagree with him, but I have no problem with it being decided on that criterion. Your method, on the other hand, of just trying to balance out the depth chart without regard for the player's best fit is a totally worthless decision-making process.

You do what's best for the team. And in the end it will be what's best for the player, because he'll see the field more. Would you rather be 3rd string RB or the starting Slot?

Other way around. You do what's best for the player--and in the end it will be what's best for the team, because you have a better player than you otherwise would.

Rajion Neal agrees.

Rajion Neal agrees.

So by leaving a kid in a position where he won't see the field, you have a better player? What good is a better player to the team, if he's on the bench?

And why are you so convinced he's not going to be a better slot than a RB?

Ask that question to Neal. The depth chart doesn't always work out the way you think it will. If you're that desperate for a slot guy, that's what recruiting is for.

I'm not. It's my opinion. Sorry I don't talk myself into automatically agreeing with everything Jones does.

So that's what this is about. It has nothing to do with Young, who was used some in the slot last year.

This is all about your decision to disagree with everything the new staff decides, just for the sake of disagreeing.

Thanks for clarifying your stance, and good day, sir.

You act like Devrin was actually recruited as a RB, but he wasn't. He was recruited as an athlete with both slot and RB in mind depending on how he developed

Hahahaha did you even read my original post? I agree with 4/5 switches but since it's not 5/5, I'm a hater. Sunshine Brigade out in full force today

Young to slot might be a good move--agree, get him the ball in space. Like the Brewer and Smith moves, too. I don't think Smith has the instincts to play outside--has never found it.

I see why young has been moved, to get him in space, but I had a blast watching him disappear behind that big ole' front line. You never knew where he was going to pop out, and neither did the opposition.

I was curious about this too and did a little digging. Here's what I found, courtesy of Pete Carroll.

That's coupled with a Nose Tackle (McCullers), pass rushing tackle (Couch? Walls? Saulsberry?) and a "hand in the dirt" end who is responsible for the C gap in the run game (Miller/Williams?).

Link

That's interesting. In Pete Carroll's system, the "hand in the dirt" end is Red Bryant who is a load at 6'4", 325 lbs (basically like having 3 DTs in a 4-3 set). If Jancek runs it that way, Couch might still be a DE playing the Red Bryant role.

Um, I think it is safe to say that the defense did have an idea seeing as he really only had one big run (30 yards against Georgia state) and if you take that one out he averaged less than 3.5 yards per carry this year.

Justin King is going to be a very very good TE. I've been calling for this for awhile now so glad to see this move by CBJ. He'll excel at this position and he's a great athlete.

I'm a little concerned about his size for a TE. Seems a little short for an SEC TE. I guess he could be a Chris Gragg type guy though.

So if he doesnt rush for this much his average is this much. But if he would have rushed for this much....whatever man. His stats are what they are. IIRC he averaged 4-5 ypc didn't he? That's solid.

I like the Brent Brewer move. Will add good speed at that level

Right, notice CBJ came back to him a second time in the paragraph just to say how encouraged he was about what he had seen out of him. What do you guys think he will weigh in at come "football time in Tennessee"?

He was around 215 last year and could probably carry a little more weight.

LB looks like his more natural position because of his aggression.

Playing to individual strengths...I was jazzed about the 3-4...running back to the forgiving arms of the 4-3

I felt, with Dooley having most of the staff bailing on him, that promoting Thompson to the DC position made the most sense. He had been a DC at UCF when Saban called him up to join his staff...so he had more clout to be a DC than Sunseri did. He also was mentored under the wing of Monte Kiffin and got to work with a relatively successful DC from Boise St (the only team who had beaten Oregon at that point...so no small feat), in Wilcox. Thompson would've kept the defensive terminology and schemes very similar to what the players already knew.

Hiring a coach who had fewer credentials to be a DC than what you already had, AND switching to a 3-4 in your last year (to prove himself as a HC), was the defining cock-up in Dooley's legacy.

Sounds good to me :good!:
