So much unwarranted speculation here and few, so very few, facts. Since this is the direction of this thread, I'll take a few moments to to share a couple of the very few facts I have come across, and then add a comment or two on the massive amount of speculation which is as big as the iceberg that did in the Titantic.
FACT: I know three very deep pocketed boosters in my area here in West Tennessee. All three have assured me money in the new hire is no concern as long as the figure remains between $5-6 million. In the wirds of one of the"The panic button along with all fire levers in buildings should have been activated half way into the third quarter of the Florida game. That is all they would share with me, so I have finished the factual aspect of this post.
Onward to my reactions to just a limited number of the specualations swirling around like some sort of scourge right up there with the bubonic plague. Also, I'll share a couple of my own speculations since they fit the "specials" section of a greasy spoon cafe. Also, I'll inject facts that I know when warranted.
I think Hart made up his mind on Dooley when we failed to win at least two of the four hellish games we played in a row during October. IMO, he is much further ahead of the curve than many might think.
I have serious doubts about Gruden. The greater chunk of his career has been in the pro ranks. (Also, I suspect his TV salary keeps him and his family more than comfortable even though we have become about as materialistic as can be.)
For me, a bothersome and central point in this is whether or not Gruden would or would not shy away from a "Sabanish salary?" I really don't know. But, my instincts tell me if he gets the coaching itch again, he will look to the pro possibilties. (He may have had a brush or two with the 365 day a year of college recruiting in some form or fashion, but I would bet a great deal that he fully understands its demands, and surely the temperature in his feet drops quickly as he debates with himself or anyone else about taking on a university job, especially in a state which must recruit from near as well as far...and on this I am talking uber-far.
I feel we are in much better hands this time around than when he had Hamilton. Hart does impress me and that is a fact. That he impresses me is a fact regardless of how any of you might feel.
I would be reluctant to write Fisher off. While I have met him, I don't know him beyond the politeness of, "Pleasure to meet you. Have a great day." I do, though, know two people who got to know him well and came to be pretty close friends with him when he coached the Titans. They tell me he loves Tennessee and was much distraught when B. Adams booted him. On top of that, they tell me he has nothing but hateful things to say about living in St. Louis. He hasn't stopped frowning since his arrival there.
Further on Fisher, go above and revisit my thoughts on Gruden when the reality of NCAA recruiting comes to his mind.
I have no more to say that would much illuminate anthing else. Thus, enjoy your Thanksgiving, and let's hope that soon we will have as Big Orange folks something special to be thank:hmm:ful for in unison.
