The ignorance of how restaurants operate by some people is one of the problems. But then again, you have some people that do know that still don't care.
Bearcat, what do you do? Do you deal with the public on a daily basis? If not, then how would you feel if you busted your butt at work but you were never compensated for what you did? You still made the minimum salary or hourly wage for your position?
I used to work in the service industry for a few years while finishing college, I am quiet aware of the "struggle". If you are good at what you do as a server and are in a decent area and restaurant, you can average out to make a decent living. I think my "give a damn" went away after I started seeing tip jars at a burger king drive thru window....it was all downhill from there lol.
I've never seen a tip jar at a fast food place but one thing I saw I didn't like was at a local craft beer store. You browse around, you pick out your beer and you take it to the counter to pay. They have an ipad kiosk thing you pay with and after you swipe your card it would ask you a tip amount. I knew the guy that worked there at the time pretty well, we always chatted and I even took him some of my beer every now and then but I didn't see the need to tip him. At most he answered a question or two. I've noticed they don't do this anymore, I guess they weren't getting any tips so they just did away with it.
There's a small restaurant here where I live in Georgia that has a tip jar on the counter.I've never seen a tip jar at a fast food place but one thing I saw I didn't like was at a local craft beer store. Also while we are on the subject again. Wtf am I charged a delivery fee from dominoes (I hate dominoes but the kids prefer it) and also expected to tip the guy from bringing it. Does dominoes incur more costs from having some guy deliver it to me than me picking it up that isn't covered in a tip?

I would say it could be beneficial in that case if it was somewhere you go often, you'll likely get taken care of or hooked up.I went to a butcher shop and bought a beef tenderloin and when I checked was asked if I wanted to tip the butcher.
I've never been asked that before, I'm not in this butcher shop but once or twice a year but I frequently shop at local butcher shops and meat markets in Northwest Arkansas and haven't been asked that.
I could see that, but seemed odd at the timeI would say it could be beneficial in that case if it was somewhere you go often, you'll likely get taken care of or hooked up.
