I get what Septic is saying. This is a very delicate situation without a doubt.

On the other hand though, you can't just stand by and let these criminals loot, steal from, and destroy businesses, businesses that people have poured blood, sweat, tears, and money into. These protests will have to be broken up, and arrests will have to be made. That's just the nature of these sorts of things.

I've thought ever since the Rodney King riots that the police instead of trying to stop them they should just cordon off the area and let them have at it. Once the riots are over give businesses money to relocate but spend zero public funds in trying to rebuild the area.

There's a fine line, you go heavy handed and you only spark more passion. Walk away and do nothing is equally troublesome. There is a middle ground strategy typically implemented.
