8 or 16, no byes. But this years champion would have missed the whole deal at 8.
Starting with the sweet 16 is probably the money play. If not suck it up and listen to the whining starting at 9. Wait!!!! Weren’t we 9!!!
Im a Braves fan too, but I could live with it as long as it's an American League team. I wouldn't have an issue having a favorite in each league since they would seldom play each other and when they did, I'd just root for the Braves. All other times I'd root for both teams.HELL NO- with the heat of a thousand suns NO.
Tennessee is BRAVES country. We don’t need any more baseball teams in the south.
No No No No No.
Yeah, when I see players leaving after 1 year, players leaving mid season, players leaving before they even get here. it takes away the sense of team pride we used to have. We went from players not getting paid( openly any way) and most folks agreeing they should get a slice of the pie, to now players being bid on like the pro's . Wondering how long before some team changes their name to the "Rentals"My enthusiasm for the sport is not even a third of what it was 5 years ago.
I really don't get this. Boston and NYC are closer than ATL and Nashville and have a long and spirited rivalry. Philly is almost in NYC's backyard.Im a Braves fan too, but I could live with it as long as it's an American League team. What don't you get? The idea of having a favorite in each league? Seems pretty reasonable to me. <shrugs>I really don't get this. Boston and NYC are closer than ATL and Nashville and have a long and spirited rivalry. Philly is almost in NYC's backyard.
Lots of pro teams have close rivals.
You guys would go absolutely nuts with Premier League Futbol. I just don't get it.
That's the thing. Having a good, strong rivalry close by is like having Alabama and GA close, it's good. What don't you get? The idea of having a favorite in each league? Seems pretty reasonable to me. <shrugs>
As for the distance, I'm in Chattanooga so the distance from Atlanta and Nasville for me is about the same.

The money Nashville would need to spend is crazy and hopefully not going to happen but the idea of there being another Southern MLB team so there's more "Waffle House action" is a good thing.
They SHOULD be in the NL, if they somehow exist. Let people argue and bicker and be divided. It's good for the sport to have close, see them every day, hated rivals. But if the Nashville team is in the American League, they and Atlanta wouldn't face each other very often. Certainly not enough build any kind of rivalry. I get it if you're cross-town rivals like Cubs/White Sox, Yankees/Mets, etc. But I can't see Nashville/Atlanta blossoming into a rivalry unless Nashville wound up in the NL East with Atlanta. It's not like the Titans are big rivals with the Falcons.

This idea that the "Braves own the South" is what I don't understand. ATL isn't Nashville.... very different towns with very different "vibes" (not a fan but can't find another word) like NYC and Boston and Philly are different "personalities."
ATL no longer represents the South, for sure, in many ways. The days of Chipper or even Hank are gone so there's room to spread out to Charlotte, Nashville, etc.
I guess it's a bad word these days but diversity. I'm not like those Dawg fans or single toothed Bama fans and never could be. I suspect there are lots of southerners who'd just as soon never see ATL again but can still stomach Nashville.
My argument is simply this : an additional team in the south means less money for the Braves. They SHOULD be in the NL, if they somehow exist. Let people argue and bicker and be divided. It's good for the sport to have close, see them every day, hated rivals.

Certainly, but you're not getting an MLB franchise in the traffic jam that is Chattanooga or in Crossville next to Bucees or somewhere like that.I would argue that neither does Nashville.
But keeping people locked in to one franchise, especially in the very un-southern city Atlanta is, doesn't make sense. While I'll watch on TV, I'm not driving into ATL for anything but business or picking up someone who flew in there. My argument is simply this : an additional team in the south means less money for the Braves.
We are having to compete with huge market teams with massive payrolls and need every last dollar we can generate.
Philly and Boston and NYM and NYY and LAD and Houston etc all have huge population bases and great TV deals and massive fan bases who spend money on them.
The Braves need all of the southern eyeballs, fans to come to the games, and folks buying Acuña jerseys. Another team down here - Charlotte, Nashville, etc only hurts the Braves.
So- NO. NO. NO.
It’s Cobb County my good man. The Braves agree with you and moved out. The city of Atlanta doesn’t make a penny on your Braves dollars spent. But keeping people locked in to one franchise, especially in the very un-southern city Atlanta is, doesn't make sense. It's not a southern town that reflects the values of lots of people you want to attract and expect to get support from. At one time, sure, ATL had a lot of southern charm but now? Why would I want to support that town?
Yeah, try to pay for a $20 beer with a $20 bill at Truist and see what happens. Cashless, I'm told. That sounds every bit as in tune with southern values as I would expect. It’s Cobb County my good man. The Braves agree with you and moved out. And, I’m guessing maybe you haven’t been to a game at the Battery yet. It’s incredible- just a phenomenal experience if you like baseball.
agreed. conference championships have to mean something. also, the amount of time between start and finish of playoff is almost as long as last two months of season. stupid.
I agree that conference championships are pretty useless with a CFP and no byes should exist, period.Do people really care about a CC game if not in the playoffs?
What are the odds teams slated for a CC game are not in a 16 team playoff without a guaranteed spot? If not, so be it.
NOBODY should get a bye and still be allowed to train and practice.
8 games on Sweet 16 weekend work well for March Madness.
