Another update on FBI corruption case..

That would've still been a stupid reason to lie. Any fine he would've paid to UT would've been nowhere near as damaging to his wallet as getting fired.

I'm including being fired for cause to be a financial penalty. I think that Bruce panicked and tried to lie his way out of his somewhat minor mess. Remember, all this was happening right after Kiffin got the **** stirring and the NCAA nosing around.

Sources: College hoops corruption case poised to take down Hall of Fame coaches, top programs, lottery picks

Somebody needs to do a Pick Em contest. I'd go Roy and Few, Kansas and KY, and would have to research lottery picks.

I was told several years ago by a fairly big donor that Bruce told Mike Hamilton the truth about the violation and Hamilton told Bruce to deny any wrong doing to the NCAA and that he would have his back. Then the picture of the kid at the Cookout surfaced and Hamilton threw Bruce under the bus. This could be false but sure sounds like something Mike Hamilton would do.

Is North Carolina finally going to get busted??? This time it’s the FBI doing the investigation and not the corrupt NCAA

I think that Duke should be more worried than UNC. Coach K couldn't recruit until Capel came on staff and suddenly, they're pulling every 5-star in the country. Bagely reclasses in August and, viola, the NCAA clears him 3 weeks later.

Capel got sanctions at Oklahoma. Look for baggage starting with Austin Rivers. UNC hasn't been in on any 5-stars since Harrison Barnes in 2009.

hope the FBI is more competent than the NCAA in investigating and trying basketball cases...this could still take months and months to finalize if it goes as deep as some think...also, could be some openings at several schools too...I'm sure it'll be comical...we'll see...:):)

GO VOLS!

Well they couldn't find a kid that had his own YouTube channel under his own name so I doubt they can find much.

No clue. But Hamilton certainly screwed up that entire situation when he went on radio and put his coach's future into question. Moron!

Barnes has been getting under the radar guys at Tennessee and not the highly recruited five stars. Maybe he is squeaky clean. (at least here)

I would be very surprised if Barnes was a part of any corruption going on. He is a "do it by the book" type of coach.

I'm afraid that UT is a FBI target. The FBI is on a mission to take down the "Big Orange".

I hope that they nail Coach K and Roy Williams to the freakin wall.

I'm not a big fan of the teams, but Coach K and Roy Williams are good coaches. I haven't seen his name on this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Coach Cal's name involved.

Hoops corruption case may take down players, coaches, programs

“This goes a lot deeper in college basketball than four corrupt assistant coaches,” said a source who has been briefed on the details of the case. “When this all comes out, Hall of Fame coaches should be scared, lottery picks won’t be eligible to play and almost half of the 16 teams the NCAA showed on its initial NCAA tournament show this weekend should worry about their appearance being vacated.”

What would happen if the information under protective order were to be released before the NCAA selection show on March 11?

A source who has been briefed on the case laughed: “You might see Tennessee-Chattanooga as a No. 2 seed.”

All Bruce had to do was tell the truth.

Don’t understand why he had to lie to his employer & the NCAA over a freaking BBQ.

Because it was the second time in his career that he had blatantly committed the same violation. That is why he lied about it. He was afraid that the seemingly harmless secondary violation was going to be pressed harder because he had committed the same violation while at UW-Milwaukee.

I wonder if this is all similar to the pre-season stuff with apparel companies being at the root of it.

I hope you're right. I hope Tennessee dodges this bullet.
It sounding like some coaches/programs are in some serious trouble.

That's a part of it, but by no means all of it. From what I heard this morning, they recorded nearly a year's worth of calls amongst those involved and they have retrieved mountains of documents from seized computers.

If you read the Yahoo sports article I posted above, the fallout from this could be massive and effectively devastate college basketball for years to come.

Guess this is why the FBI is too busy to follow up on damned school shooters....even freaking self identified ones! Priorities, right? Feds screw up everything they touch....everything.
