Another update on FBI corruption case..

All I can focus on is the fact that this stuff may never come out. Remember the big Ok St story yahoo hyped up only to have it never release? Or the Miami scandal where the grimy details never saw the light of day? Have to think the NCAA will find a way to keep all this under wraps.

If it is the apparel companies and they have tapes of conversations , makes you wonder if it confined to just basketball.

Sources: College hoops corruption case poised to take down Hall of Fame coaches, top programs, lottery picks

Somebody needs to do a Pick Em contest. I'd go Roy and Few, Kansas and KY, and would have to research lottery picks.

OU point guard would be my first one.

I find it hard to believe that World Wide Wes's name isn't front and center of every published story on this mess.

I think that Duke should be more worried than UNC. Coach K couldn't recruit until Capel came on staff and suddenly, they're pulling every 5-star in the country. Bagely reclasses in August and, viola, the NCAA clears him 3 weeks later.

Capel got sanctions at Oklahoma. Look for baggage starting with Austin Rivers. UNC hasn't been in on any 5-stars since Harrison Barnes in 2009.

Coach K was winning Nattys before Capel arrived. Christian Laettner, Carlos Boozer, Grant Hill, Shane Battier etc. Guys like that ring a bell?

I don't feel sorry for any of these teams that are going to go down. If don't think we (UT) will, unless we are looking past the Barnes era. I know that we haven't been squeaky clean for all of our history, but I think compared to many of our rivals - Alabama (fb), Auburn, Clemson, Kentucky (BBall), Ole Miss (fb), NC (academics), Duke (Bball)? - we have generally tried to play by the book. This has cost us dearly in recruiting at times. So many times we have been left at the altar in recruiting, and we have been just less than Championship caliber because of it.

I predict that the college basketball landscape will change dramatically if this all comes out, and UT will have an opportunity to compete at or very near the top, in both basketball and football. For us, I think it will be a good thing. For many others, not so much.

I can tell you of first hand accounts that we (if they know about it) are in deep SH$&. Also, Butch paid for kids to go to class to get his famous the kids are getting great grades spin out there... UT is very much in trouble... But the kids we had in the last coach's roster were by far the worst... If I could I would punch each one of them in the throat excluding Admiral and Phillips. The guys we have now are good though (as in people and players).

Agreed. But how hot a commodity will that make Coach Barnes if he is clean as a whistle and rebuilt our program. Old age or not. If a major power school wants to retool their image with a proven winner. What are the odds they could outbid us and nab him to say UCLA, North Carolina Kentucky, Kansas wherever. I'd like to think his integrity would make him decide to finish here but tripling his salary would be enticing for any man.

I have a feeling that after working for 3 years to get UT into this position CRB isn't likely to bail out and start over from scratch. UNC would be the only possibility in your scenario IMO, but he's buds with Roy so he may not want to take out that trash. Isn't his mother just a couple of hours down the road from Knoxville as well?

Fulmer is our AD and if it was about money with Barnes, I'm sure they could dig some up.

Go for it.

No, I won't do it because maybe on a off chance the kids have changed by now... It's not just someone got paid... It's someone(s) going to counciling for a long time. It's some very serious stuff (as far as the dude are concerned) but the not so serious stuff is kids got paid to come here and expected certain privileges when doing so. Obviously, as you have heard those (jersey and gear deals with Nike, Adidas, Jordan, etc.. Are more than you thought)

Honestly, I don't think the NCAA is too worried about this (money issue) because their deep dark secret with escort services isn't getting talked about.
The question no one is asking is, why all the sudden are they interested in this whenever it has been happening for awhile? Is someone getting cut out of the money?

Receive mountains of Nike stuff that the players/their families can resell part of it?

The escort services is/was a very real and sad thing.

You could but not really... I will put it this way... If your job is to know the rules for your coaches, so they don't cross the line... Wouldn't you know the rules so well you could help get past them?
