the coaching fraternity has a problem when working for someone that will cut the legs out from under a coach and his kids when they have games left to play. that sends a huge signal to coaches and there are many right now that question if they would want to work in that situation. Note: I was probably stating too strong some would drop immediately. if they are seriously interested, they should be willing to address and talk through concerns. I know the guy at Bama is very concerned about it.
Now, maybe if it gets down to a particular candidate and that is a concern then perhaps Tennessee and the powers that be can ease those fears.
The flip side is, there are also apperances that our AD has been stripped of some power so that begs the question in minds also, if he isn't there, who will be my boss??
Both questions are coming up.
I hate Kiffin as much as the next guy, but the guy was the flavor of the month, and no head coaching experience? Really? Oakland Raiders ring any bells? I know they have mostly been a joke, but last I checked they are a member of the NFL as one of their 32 franchises, which happens to field a team that enters into a minimum of 16 competitions each fall....I'm glad he left, but take a breath before yelling into your keyboard and glossing over the obvious fact that the dude was a head coach in the NFL-and actually made Oakland competitive for the first time in several seasons. Tennessee was not the only school after him.
Except he is concerned about who his boss will be, according to Hubbs. Not sure I would like the hire at all, but this underscores the fact that Cheek needs to come out and really support Hamilton and make sure prospective candidates know his head is not immediately on the chopping block.
He would have been the coach at Arkansas the year before if Al Davis would have let him out of his contract. Washington had no chance to hire Lane Kiffin because he had no real interest in coaching there.Name another school that was after him. When Wash had a chance to hire him they went with Sarkishian. If you consider the 1.5 years Kiff spent at Oak has adequate head coaching experience I can see why you support Hamilton. UT could have hired any football coach they wanted but Hamilton felt empowered because he had did so well with Pearl that he thought he could hire anybody even a loser like Kiffin. Hamilton wanted to rid UT of all the coaches that Dickey had hired. Hamilton needs to be fired !
