Anthony Grant - Alabama

No, it won't. I don't think people really give a crap about the difference between the NIT semis or an NIT championship.

i respectfully disagree. the more he wins... the better he looks as a coach, especially on a nationally televised stage at Madison Square.

If he's wanting out... he knows the more success he has the more people are going to come calling

With his team winning last night and going to Madison Square for the NIT ... i hardly think Grant's focus lately has been to reach out to TN and express interest in a job .. .when noone has reached out to him. I question whoever is reporting this.

You question Hubbs? How dare you, sir.

Didn't the Gaspumpers win 2 straight NITs a few years back? How's that been working out so far?

I get what you're saying; but, I don't think his "status" is going to change at all whether he loses tonight or wins the NIT.

Except he is concerned about who his boss will be, according to Hubbs. Not sure I would like the hire at all, but this underscores the fact that Cheek needs to come out and really support Hamilton and make sure prospective candidates know his head is not immediately on the chopping block.

if Cheek did that, there would be some immendately drop UT from consideration because we were keeping Mike. After the way Fulmer and Pearl deals were handled, lot of coaches concerned about working for Mike.

I just find that incredibly hard to believe. I respect your opinion. But, how is being mediocre for a decade and receiving $6 million to go away a "bad deal" for a coach? I would think it's a great deal. Also, if a coach gets caught committing 9 or 10 Major Violations and the AD supports them right to the end, how does that scare anyone away?

If you can explain that, then maybe I can see what you're saying.

That's why they should just wait to deal with that situation after a coach is found, and let the prospective coaches know that they, as the new coach, will be taken care of as far as the next AD is concerned.

I think the public announcements before the end of seasons is part of it. You have to admit, that is silly.

I'm not sticking up for Hamilton at all. I really think he should be let go, but I think we should tough it out for the time being because I think that's the best scenario to get a good coach. However, it would seem that he's been pretty committed to his coaches; I don't know why anyone would be scared to work for him.

I don't care if he is winning the Papa Johns Varsity Basketball tournament, if it is on national television and you are winning, it can only help.

Seems I remember us hiring Buzz Peterson on the heels of his winning the NIT at Tulsa...:birgits_giggle:

the coaching fraternity has a problem when working for someone that will cut the legs out from under a coach and his kids when they have games left to play. that sends a huge signal to coaches and there are many right now that question if they would want to work in that situation. Note: I was probably stating too strong some would drop immediately. if they are seriously interested, they should be willing to address and talk through concerns. I know the guy at Bama is very concerned about it.

Now, maybe if it gets down to a particular candidate and that is a concern then perhaps Tennessee and the powers that be can ease those fears.

The flip side is, there are also apperances that our AD has been stripped of some power so that begs the question in minds also, if he isn't there, who will be my boss??

Both questions are coming up.

Hubbs latest on Grant:
On this Anthony Grant rumor cycle. I have heard this afternoon that how serious Grant may be is up for debate. Grant has indicated to some that he's not interested because of how unsure things seem in Knoxville with Hamilton's status and the NCAA stuff.

Shocking stuff there.

Yea, but wouldn't anyone and everyone in bammer's Ath. Dept. want to know what is going on with Hamilton.

I mean this could be a good opportunity for bammer to take a look behind the curtain a UT.

Just heard Basilio on Prikbaum (by accident) and Basilio stated again that his sources say Grant is not happy with the situation in BAMA and again Cecil Hurt who ever that is, I guess a Bama beat writer completly disagrees. Says Grant is very satisfied with the situation there and if he was wanting out TN would be the last place he would go because of the unknown AA situation. I have been saying we are going to settle for our next coach I'm afraid do to the timing. "who the hell is Jerry Green? presser TBD.........

If Basilio is saying he wants out, he's probably quite happy at Bama.
