Anthony Grant - Alabama

People who continue to think that Mike Hamilton wanted to fire Bruce Pearl are completely out of their mind and need to retreat back to the mountains!

I have no desire to bring in Grant. IMO it is an obvious downgrade from Bruce in coaching ability. I think that the trainwreck that was this past season has a lot of people forgetting just how above our heads Bruce's teams played up until this season when all the junk hit the fan. Frank is my choice of choices at this point. Things could change, but the only positive I see with Grant is pissing off the Bammers and that is not the right motivation for a hire. (not saying that is why we would hire him, but still)

Grant is a good coach, but Bruce was a great coach when he wasn't under a microscope. There are only a handful of coaches that are even capable of bringing EVERYTHING that Bruce brought to the table, and honestly, even those are out of reach. Bruce had a lot of dynamics that this fanbase needed, and still needs IMO. We still need a coach to bottle feed the masses and I just don't see Grant as the type to pimp UT like we need to fill the seats.

I am all for bringing in Frank or Brown to stabalize the program, build off of Bruce's run, and jockey UT in position for a HUGE hire a few years down the road.

Grant=copout/fail IMO

MH didn't do anything to deserve the criticism. I actually have the utmost faith in MH's ability to bring in the right basketball coach. It's not his fault that Bruce turned out to be such a "shyster" as Jimmy Collins would say. Bruce pulled the wool over that vast majority of the fanbase as far as ethics are concerned. He talks the talk, and pisses all over himself as he attempts to walk the walk.

Go Vols and I look forward to an announcement in the next week or two and securing a new coach to get behind.

I am not sure who would be the best fit for the job. I do know that Mike Hamilton needs to be fired. I have been saying this for 2 years. Every hire he has made has blown up in his face, one you can forgive but three come on people. Anyone who is still defending Hamilton is insane.

Did you think that way at the time they were hired?
You are lying to yourself if you thought Kiffin was a bad hire at the time and even more so if you thought Pearl was a bad hire a year ago from now!

I'll cast my vote for Anthony Grant. I would be very happy with the hire. I think the players would love him. I could also go for Mooney or Smart. I like the young guns.
I want in order...
1.) Frank
2.) Grant
3.) Mooney
4.) Williams
5.) Marshall.

Just one minute. I did believe that Kiffin was a bad hire. No head coaching experience to speak of, an outsider to southern football, & never did like his smug attitude. The best thing that happened to UT football was when he left. Do not call me a liar about that. As far as Pearl, nobody thought he was a bad hire a year ago including myself. But Hamilton did hire him and at some level he is accountable as well. I do not believe that Hamilton was blind to what was going on with Kiffin and Pearl . Hamilton needs to be fired period!

every bad ceo and company president in the world could use the 'i cannot see the future' excuse.

I will say this: I think there is a major flaw in people's thinking when someone always has to be on the chopping block when things don't go as planned. I know this is contrary to most people's thinking, but every bad thing that happens does not require someone being to blame.

Who are we going to blame for last nights tornadoes? The weather man? The mayor of that city/county? Everything is not foreseeable.

I personally believe that recruiting ability, hiring ability and coaching ability are somewhat foreseeable. Pearl's aggressive recruiting practices, and lying to the NCAA do not appear to have been predictable, based on his past performance.

Kiffin, on the other hand, was planning to bring Orgeron with him. So, I can see that as being a bit risky... But you certainly had the rightful expectation of good recruiting and coaching (with the staff that he was bringing in).

Certainly, I think the returns on Dooley have been positive thus far.

Personally, I like Hamilton's willingness to take a few risks. Who wants to watch Wade Houston-type teams, or the teams that Fulmer was putting together? Not that I am happy with the results on the football field or with Pearl's issues, but at least Hamilton is willing to aim for the fences occasionally.

He had no choice but to fire Pearl! If anything he stood behind him far too long!

It is like firing a CEO of a major bank for how their stock perfomed over the last 3 years!
Most of those CEO are still in place because it was not all their fault!

I hate Kiffin as much as the next guy, but the guy was the flavor of the month, and no head coaching experience? Really? Oakland Raiders ring any bells? I know they have mostly been a joke, but last I checked they are a member of the NFL as one of their 32 franchises, which happens to field a team that enters into a minimum of 16 competitions each fall....I'm glad he left, but take a breath before yelling into your keyboard and glossing over the obvious fact that the dude was a head coach in the NFL-and actually made Oakland competitive for the first time in several seasons. Tennessee was not the only school after him.

Grant may be playing us for more Bama money but he would be a solid hire if we got him, not a home run IMO, but a solid hire. I'd to have Lawrence but that may not be a viable option if he wants to stay with the Celtics through the playoffs.

With his team winning last night and going to Madison Square for the NIT ... i hardly think Grant's focus lately has been to reach out to TN and express interest in a job .. .when noone has reached out to him. I question whoever is reporting this.

I'm not. He apparently wants out of there; this is the time you try to get out if you're him.

if he wants out, sure now's the time to do it. Just saying i think he's probably more focused right now on winning the NIT in NY next week than he is on sending out feelers to TN. After all, if he does want out of Bama, winning the NIT will go a long way in improving his "stock"

No, it won't. I don't think people really give a crap about the difference between the NIT semis or an NIT championship.

Yeah, because EVERYONE is watching the NIT. How are you doing in your office NIT bracket pool?
