Any chance Tayven Jackson beats out Milton next spring?

That was a really bad miss. We went 0-7 on 3rd down. We can’t rely on 1 play drives to carry us to 9-10 wins.

Yea, Vandy sucks and look at his numbers. Seems like a great guy but he isn’t the answer at QB. He would likely put up some eye popping numbers in a couple of games and just as likely disappear in a few games.

Heck, even the PI call on Vandy for hacking Squirrel outta bounds was gonna go 10 yards over his head. I have given up hope that Milton will ever be able to calm the frik down and relax to throw a proper deep ball. He refuses to put enough air under those bombs (minus the 1st to JH & the UM one). Every other one was a beautiful middle that sailed way past some very speedy receivers. After all the chances at Michigan, starting here and costing us games on missiles, and now his first start a year later ... I give up that his mind can be fixed.
I'd love to be proven wrong in the bowl game, but the data doesn't allow it right now.

We just need some faster receivers and Joe will be fine…need that Clark Kent guy from Kansas…

Do Gatlin, Carl Lewis, or Bolt have any eligibility left? Maybe if we can put one of them in QB pads and those new short britches they might get there.

I think if they could implement more of Milton with a bit of Tebow run game option would be interesting to see. Don’t know if that “scheme” is part of Golesh’s repertoire but Milton has the size and speed to truck people.

He does, but they protected him like a statue last night. We were staring down the barrel of a walk on if he went down. With real options at QB, I'd say heck yes. They were using him that way earlier in the year.

Milton was not allowed to run against Vanderbilt. If he gets his deep ball dialed in, the sky is the limit. I think he will have a much better bowl game, when he is actually allowed to run. He still has the most upside of any quarterback in the nation.

The look on Heupel's face last night made me think he was already thinking portal. He has to get a QB to run the show so we can score. Were not going to run on teams like we did Vandy last night. I think a QB and some defensive guys would be where you would be concentrating next season. Especially linebacker where were going to need a lot of help above what we got coming back.

We need to bring 1 in from the portal IMO. Unless they really believe in last night's backup. Isn't he a PWO who played elsewhere already? Too lazy to look.
I'm not really seeing it w Jackson on little data. I'm not seeing it w Milton on a ton of data. If Nico busts or can't go, I'd be very afraid of our projected QB room in 23' w no portal addition. QBs everywhere have to be chomping at the bit to have a shot at the system if the depth chart doesn't scare them.

Do you think he gets an opportunity to show he can complete 7 out of 10, or do you think the coaches already have Milton inked into QB1 for next season?
It'll be in Spring camp.
Going into camp, Milton is QB1.
But if Tayven or Nico show out in drills and such they might get an opportunity sooner rather than later.

All that said, I expect Milton will be QB1 coming out of spring into fall. I definitely do not think the coaches have Milton as QB1 for next season...Heupel has indicated and shown he won't "Pruitt" and stick with an underperforming QB.

This is the only answer. I was hoping we'd get a chance to see what Milton is all about, but last night wasn't it.

As for the people who say Milton can't improve after so many years, it's almost like you guys didn't just witness Hooker go from losing his job at VA Tech to a legit Heisman contender.

Apples & oranges. Plenty of rags to riches stories out there. The issue with Milton is that he had the exact same opp as Hooker from a similar situation and failed. Then got a 1 year reboot to turn it around again. And the performance looked identical to the last fail. I think he's a head case.
I hope CJH won't waste another early season fail (read UF loss) hoping this guy can relax and throw a deep ball properly. I'm just at the "prove it" point now with him.

Correct, No Way Milton leads TN to 9-10 wins. Anybody who thinks otherwise is not watching. He was 11/21 with 1 TD last night against arguably the worst team in the sec. We’ll see how Milton does in the bowl game but it’s obvious he’s not even close to Hooker’s passing abilities.

With Hooker we were still a play away from losing to Pitt, FL & Bama. Very few QBs could make the clutch throws he made against Bama to get in position for the game winning FG.

I think you are right. What would Miltons stats have been if he had took a chill pill before launching those missels? 15/21 & 4/5TDs!?!

Traven will be very good.

Joe will be getting many reps throughout December and that may help his deep ball accuracy.

Similar to golf, he just needs to find a little trigger to get some air under ball.

Or, roll them all out to the right; then let him throw cross the field deep to receiver going down the left sidelines.

He’s going into his 5th year of college football. If he hasn’t shown the ability to do something 50% of the time yet he’s not going to be able to do something most of the time 9 months from now, I don’t care if he moves in with Peyton Manning and Drew Brees for the next year. He is what he is and it’s all he’ll ever be. He’s a freak athlete with a rocket for an arm. That doesn’t make someone a good QB though. He’s indecisive and makes poor decisions and he has zero touch on any of his passes. There’s no reason to believe 8-9 months of work is going to fix the same problems he had 14 months ago. We either need Tayven to be the guy or we need to get a transfer in that’s proven he could play. Whether it be at the G5 level or is on a bad P5 school that is looking to increase his draft stock. If not we will go 7-5 next year and all the talk across the SEC and rest of the country is that we were a 1 year wonder
the stat is as posted last night during the game. Milton was 79% on passes over 25 yds.

That's why teams that manage the transfer portal right, do NOT have drop-off yrs....how many yrs. in a row has Ole Ms got their QB as a transfer & done well?
We don't need a QB from the portal. We need about 8 DBs a couple LBs and maybe an OL or 2 that can play right away. I would also not pass up the opportunity at a good RB if one is available.

Nico will win the job next year. He is ranked #3 in the nation and a lot of people thinks that he is #1. He is not redshirting. He understands this offense.

That was also in relief that the stats aren’t telling you. He got to come in games and beat on teams that was beaten down. That’s a whole lot of less pressure on a Qb. Than knowing you have all the pressure on you in every single drive in a game.!

Understanding the offense and being able to play at a high level in a league that is essentially the AAA league for the NFL straight out of HS are completely different things

Can’t see that.
Have you looked at the schedule? 8-4 is a floor and 10-2 is the ceiling. 9-3 looks about right. TAMU replaces LSU and they don’t know what they will look like. Bama and UGA will have questionable Offensive output, Florida isn’t ready.

Watching Josh Pate right now and he said Texas was waiting on Arch Manning to be there and play next year. Are you saying that Nico will not play? He is getting a lot of NIL money to come here and him RS is not an option. I have no problem saying right now that he wins the starting job.
