Any chance Tayven Jackson beats out Milton next spring?

While i would still think Milton will be the starter, don't count out Nico because he's a freshman. He'll be enrolled here for the entire Spring and he's a consensus top 5 player in the nation. I think we'll have a good situation next year with Milton, nico, and Jackson.

That one was on Fant. He stumbled coming out of his break. Milton could've put it a little closer to him, but if we're not playing in a downpour, that's a TD. This was not a optimal game to be a QB to be fair. Let's see how he does in the bowl game.

People can't understand this concept. Milton wasn't throwing to Fant there. He was throwing to a spot. If Fant stumbled he missed the spot. People act like Fant ran a route, turned and gave Milton a target and he missed it.

Well, we have tasted success from good QB play with Hooker…I don’t think people (Coach H included) will stomach half a$$ qb play going forward. Milton may start next season, but our younger 4 or 5 star QBs will finish it. GBO!

Oh I’m glad you cleared that up , now I feel much better 🤣🤣😂.
With Hooker receivers got to the spot 70% of the time?
And now they are not , maybe Milton is missing the spot by 5-10 yards

It was raining and Milton/Fant have had a week of 1st team reps together. Timing routes take a lot of work. But even that's moot if Fant stumbled. Remember Keyton stumbling a few weeks ago and suddenly it looked like Hooker missed him by 6 yards? When you're throwing to a spot, any stumble or grab can throw off the routes and make them look really bad.

Ok great excuse! Now what’s your excuse for every other game he’s started? Ever ?
no other has been any different

It did seem like some kind of miscommunication. You're right though, Milton was throwing to a spot that was taking his receiver away from the trailing safety, which is what you want. Fant kept running up the seem, even though it looked more like a post route.

He absolutely could. The staff was very high on him through spring and summer camp. Hopefully he’s healthy again by spring ball and is able to get a grasp of the offense. I know high school to college is a massive jump, but from his HS highlights he seems to have such better feel for the game than Milton. Also in the short amount of reps in the games he played this year he seemed to be a much quicker decision maker in regards to taking off and running when a throw isn’t there. Maybe Heupel and Golesh tweak the offense some going into our bowl game though and Milton looks like a completely different player. Milton seems to be a lot more comfortable with crossing routes over the middle of the field than deep balls on the boundary. I think Jackson gives us a much better opportunity to run an offense similar to what we’ve ran the past 2 years. If Milton starts I think our offense is more spread option based in the running game with air raid passing concepts with 6-7 deep balls a game to keep the safeties honest. Having guys like White, Holiday, Seldon, and potentially Dee Williams (I think he should move to offense if he doesn’t pan out at corner after bowl practice) makes it to where any mesh or flood concept can turn into a long TD

Milton can get there. He has to put in the work with the WRs imo. He has to get over the nerves as well. Has the ability not sure if he has the composure for the position.

Milton still overthrows wide open receivers 80-90% of the time. He hit that one early but the rest were bad overthrows. The guy is a beast athletically and his arm is next-level strong . . . However, he must improve with his touch passing or else we won’t be winning anything meaningful. Vandy is just hapless so we could cruise - kind of like we should have done against SC (yeah, that choke is still killing me).

You think a transfer portal makes Jackson or even Nico unhappy?
Think it would depend on the eligibility of the incoming QB. I would like to see Tennessee bring in someone like Hank Bachmeier. Potentially 2 years of eligibility, proven QB that slings the ball with accuracy and has decent mobility.

Whoever it is, I think we'll be fine offensively. Heupel and co. better get their act together defensively though. The back end has been atrocious both years, and the offense won't be able to mask it as well next season.

Nico will likely get the go next year at some point. He’s loaded with talent and starts school in January.

Nico needs a full season in Huepel's system. Milton will be our starter barring any injury.
I agree with you, but Nico has probably been sent an advance package. Maybe Not. But he is an EE and hung with Tennessee for a year now. He may know more about Huepel's system than the ordinary Joe coming into the system.

I posted this in the game thread, but that's probably not the right spot for this question. Milton doesn't look any better than last year in this Candy game,. I don't see us doing very well against decent or better teams next year without improvement from Milton or a different QB1. It just doesn't seem like Milton is going to change. Love the talent and the personality, but I just don't think he's a QB in actual game situations.

Any chance Traven Jackson can win out the QB1 spot next spring and give Nico a year or two to get some size on him. Jackson was a 4 star recruit, correct? Is he good enough to compete with Milton in the spring? Will Heupel give him a fair opportunity?
No chance! Silly question IMO

for next year, no one is going To be HH. Milton will keep improving but he’s got to learn to get air under his throws or he won’t last the whole season as a starter…unless we keep rushing for nearly 400 yards a game. HH was a top 3 qb this year in the country. If Milton can be a top 3-4 in SEC QB that’s probably enough to expect from him. Am sure JH will structure some things to better suit Milton. It all gets down to ball security and do coaches trust that more with a sixth year guy or frosh/redshirt frosh.

For one it wasn't a bullet. Secondly, Fant slowed down before he turned to look for the ball. Milton threw it to where Fant should have been. And it still hit Fant in the hand. That play was 100% on Fant.

For what it's worth, Pat Ryan agreed with you on this point during the broadcast.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen Jackson play except when he broke his collarbone, I’m not throwing all my cards down on a freshman coming in and immediately being the savior, I fell for that crap with Harrison Bailey and he sucked

Hope and think are two different things. You may not realize how valuable Hooker and Banks are/were to this year's team. Replacing them will be key in next season's record. I'm not convinced Milton has improved at all. I don't see 9 to 10 wins next season if Milton is QB1 unless he improves significantly, and you have to begin to realize he's probably not going to improve. He is what he is.
I understand that but quick question..... Did u see 10-11 wins coming this year??
