Any for a 50-spot??

If we don't blow Memphis away, then we're in serious trouble !

The way this Tennessee team seems to be settling, I wouldn't look for anymore big blowouts. After the Cal game, they've played all their competition pretty close and I don't see that improving when we get into our SEC schedule. Win or lose, it's going to be close.

Edit: Unless our lines and running game suddenly catch on fire and dominate the competition.

You know I look at how goos we re as opposed to how bad we are. We lost by 1 point to Florida and a td was called back on a stupid penalty that went against us. Our running game sucked and we still should have beat Florida ! It really makes you wonder.

They had a td called back on a stupid penalty also.

I'm not saying we're bad by any means. I'm just saying that it seems like the Vols are playing to the level of their competition for the most part. That's good when playing top 10 teams and not so good when playing teams such as Air Force or Marshall.

Granted, the Vols pulled away from Marshall in the 4th quarter (another sign of improvement), but that game was pretty close for 3 quarters.

We went up 9 early on Marshall and put it on cruise control. I don't think we were ever in any danger of losing that game, so the players were not putting forth 100%, they were going through the motions.

You say that like it's a good thing. I certainly hope that Fulmer and the players don't think that a 9 point lead in the first quarter is reason enough to go on cruise control.

Up 9 and put it on cruise control? I seriously doubt it. We almost blew a large lead to AF in 5 minutes and UF came back and won at the end also. This team is not talented enough to be on cruise control.

Definitely not a good thing. I think this team lacks motivation against lesser opponents. It seems it has been that way for the past few years. We play up or down to the level of our competition.

We won't hang 50 on memphis, if we get a two possesion lead they'll be working on the running game some more to get ready for UGA. The only possible way we put up 50 is if the D or kick return has a couple of scores. I might as well have just said D there because we all know we wont bring a kick all the way in any game this year.

These kind of threads make me nervous about the game. Now I'll look for it to be close.
 yeah, something like 31-17...a lot like last week's game i would think.

Problem with scoring 50 now is the clock. New rule means we dont have enough possesions to score 50.

As much as I'd like it, I think not. I think Memphis plays 9 miles over their heads and keeps the Vols at 28 . Plus CPF's tendencies to get conservative early.

If the defense had actually stopped Air Force occasionally, we'd probably have hung 50 on them easily.

Like I said before, 10 or 11 possessions in that game and the Vols could've pushed 70..

it will be interesting to see how they do this week in all seriousness...i know Memphis isn't very good, but the qb can throw it around....i think he's averaging 250+ yards a game passing. Unfortunately for him, he apparenlty tends to give the ball away too.

I'd like our D to get a really solid performance under thier belts, and this weekend may present that opportunity.

You're probably pretty safe. I don't think there has been a 50 point game since 2003.
It's actually happened with more frequency than one would think over Fulmer's tenure...
