Any updates on Chris Jones?

With the addition of Travon Landry to the 2013 class, I highly doubt Jones ends up here.

Strengths:
Landry is a pass first point guard that knows how to run a team and is an extension of the head coach on the floor. He is more concerned about winning than stats, but has shown the ability to take over a game when his team needs him. He has a high basketball I.Q. on both sides of the ball and dictates tempo with his ball pressure. He is a threat to knock down an open 3-ball and has speed and ball quickness to get into the paint at will.

Weaknesses:
Although Landry has shown he can shoot it when open he will need to develop his consistency on his 3 point shot; because of his ball quickness defenders often sag in order to contain his penetration and he will need to make them pay when he gets to the college level.

Bottom Line:
Tennessee got themselves a tough hard-nosed competitor that has a great work ethic and loves to compete. His defensive abilities may be more advanced than his offensive prowess at the moment, but he possesses a second gear with the ball that should give him the chance to be very effective scoring the ball when needed.

Can't find it now, but an article from this summer seemed to indicate CCM wasn't recruiting him very hard. I tend to agree that taking a '13 PG means no Jones.

He's a great player, though - if Forbes ends up with a good job like Memphis, he could very well follow.

That sounds exactly like the opposite of the point guards we've had for the last five years (Bobby Maze excepted). High basketball IQ, ability to run an offense. A breath of fresh air.

He sounds exactly like a Cuonzo Martin type PG. Also a very good defender it seems.

Saw the article too. CCM is not pursuing him at all.

Chris Jones will not play at Memphis as he and current point guard Joe Jackson are not exchanging Holiday gifts this year if you know what I mean. Their H.S. competition was fierce. I hadn't heard anything of Forbes going to Memphis.

Don't know where Forbes will end up, but I know that a lot of U of M fans want Pastner to hire him.

thanks for the info but imo if we had jones we would have our kemba walker type pg, a guard that can score at will thats what we honestly need.

I'd actually rather have Landry than Jones to be honest.
While I like Jones, I agree with you. Landry seems to be an "on the ball" defender and is really quick. We have to have a PG, it's been years. Seems like he will pick up his 4th star early.

While they play a little alike, he doesn't have Kemba's natural ability to score, nor is Jones anywhere near have the point guard skills Kemba does IMO.

I think I get too excited when reading a kids scout report and it says he's more advanced on defense than offense.

I love that he has a high I.Q. as a PG and he passes first. Something we need at that position.

I agree. That is what we are lacking from Golden now. Washpun has it but is more of a project. Landry's stock will be rising since the ratings get better as more schools offer - the opposite of football. He will be the best we've had since CJ. I just wish basketball had the same rule as football about being in school for 3 years before they can declare.

i'd be surprised if landry is as good of a defender as jones. imo you take jones if you can get him. you can never have too many guards.

We're also after SG Sindarius Thornwell 2013. 4*
6'4 180

"Thornwell’s ability to attack the basket and get his teammates involved has attracted the attention of college scouts — and according to Thornwell, his style of play has often been compared to that of NBA All-Star Dwyane Wade, as both players have a keen ability to drive to the basket and create off the dribble for open teammates out on the perimeter. While he said he excels attacking the rim, he said he’s working hard to improve his pull-up jumper to keep defenders honest when he attacks the rim.

While he currently claims no front runner in his recruitment, he said Clemson, Tennessee and N.C. State have been recruiting him the hardest thus far."

Needs a thread.
