jesus not this unspoken rule bs again? Maybe there is a reason why it's unspoken? In other words maybe no such rule exists.
one game does not prove anything gents. If we beat you that doesn't mean we are always better than tenn, just as you winning last year doesn't mean you are always better than cal or the pac-10. get a clue. you guys have received beatdowns in the past and got up and responded the next year. all this "were special and dominate everyone because we are tenn and in the SEC" stuff gets old real quick. And you wonder why the rest of the country thinks the average SEC fan is completely delusional. I'm sure you thought you would blow out penn state as well. Has there EVER been a nonconference game you thought you would lose? I bet not. Funny how you say that you only respect USC. USC respects Cal. Every trojan fan to come on the cal board predicts a Cal victory on sept 1st. Every single one. You guys need to get out and see the world a little. You might find that pretty good football is played out west.
As for your WR and secondary. Very rare, no matter how talented, is the player that can step in and dominate his first game ever. I'm sure your guys are good, but to not expect some dropoff the first game of the season is unrealistic.
Agreed what is a likely line on the game?If this is directed at me, you're misunderstanding. I never said Tennessee dominated everything. What we did dominate was Cal in 2006. See, when people make predictions, they typically do it based on evidence. There is NO evidence that Cal will *BLOW OUT* Tennessee. None.
I like you droski, but I've never seen a fanbase disregard such a beatdown. Granted, 2007 is NOT 2006, and UT lost more talent than Cal did. UT also brought in more new talent than Cal did. Game should be good - but based on the little evidence we have (2006 game), I say UT will win. If UT had won in Knoxville by a TD or so, I'd figure Cal has the edge this season.
I agree, the argument is pretty weak. Still, the author makes an interesting point about the Cal v Tenn game. You guys better hope you win…
I realize this article I discovered the other day is sure to generate a lot of controversy and outrage on this board, but I felt you should see how some view the SEC. Please, do not kill the messenger, I am merely posting the article.
SEC ARROGANCE DOMINATES COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Outside the South, Fans are fed up!
Heaven forbid any question the supremacy of the SEC. To do so you open yourself up to numerous vicious attacks from the vanguard of the SEC. Recent developments though (aside from Florida stealing the National Championship from Boise State) point to a different reality. The SEC is weak, and their ability to dominate on the decline.
Last year there were numerous examples of the SEC not being able to compete with other major conferences. Chiefly among them was the thrashing Arkansas received from USC. While Cal did go into Tennessee and lose, they kept it respectable, 35-18. Many in the college football world outside the south speculate that had Tennessee not stolen many of Cals signals, Cal would have prevailed.
Perhaps we cannot blame out southern brethren. For from the time of birth they are brought up to believe they are a cut above all other conferences. Again, numerous examples have shown without any doubt, this is not true.
Said one frustrated USC fan, any time you turn on the TV all you hear is how great the SEC is, and how they dominate the college football world. I guess wining several National Championships slipped by their collective conscience.
It remains to be seen if this traditionally viewed stereotype can be broken. One thing is sure, Cal plays Tennessee on Sept 1 to open the season for both schools. With early indications pointing to a Cal victory, this perception of SEC dominance may soon come to an end.
