Any Vols Coming out to California for the Cal Game?

once again the stolen signals thing is stupid. i've never bought that.

As for your question, it depends on the game. If tenn beats cal again convincingly I will have no choice but to admit cal is constantly overrated. I would have said the same thing if we had lost to A&M. If it's a close game and tenn pulls it out, I'm not sure that lends itself to a "cal is always overrated" argument.

Last year Cal went 0 - 2 against top 25. Until they beat a top 25 team, they are overrated.

In all my years of following Vols football I have learned to not say we'll beat someone by X amount. They will more often then not not cover. Might win but not cover. Becareful.

I think this might slip into some kind of cultural differences between the conferences. SEC folk demand excellence and expect to win. The thought a loss doesn't get into the mind because it's not progressive.

I would get deeper into this but I really don't feel like it. Anyone catch what I'm saying.

It's like an Army. In the Army you are brainwashed in a positive sence of you will win, you are going to suceed, failure is not an option.

Catch what I'm getting at?

Well, I don't think Cal is always overrated - not that you implied that I said that. Anyway, Cal has been good since Tedford came.

If Tennessee wins, I would hope the delusional Cal fans would just shut up. It was amazing in the 6th week of the season, both teams had 1 loss, and Bears fans were saying Cal was better.

These days, everyone thinks they know so much from just watching games - they're the best talent evaluators. However, what happens on the field is the ultimate indicator in college football.

I agree. It probably won't be as easy as 2006, but I laugh a little when I hear somebody play the "hostile environment" card as a big benefit for Cal. Sure it's an advantage, but it's not exactly The Swamp or Death Valley.

it's a game in an unfamilar stadium. obviously it isn't anywhere near the home advantage you guys had last year, but it's still an advantage.

Yes.

Advantage comes with fan noise and rowdy fans. Is CAL going to bring that on? West Coast not known for loud stadiums.

Or Samford Stadium, even! I honestly think the cross country flight will hurt UT more than what, 70,000 Bear fans?

serious question. in what way do you consider Cal fans delusional? Because some expect to win?

I don't see game vs CAL the same as UT vs Vandy. CAL will come to play. We have good chance to win I think but I would not say a win vs CAL is guaranteed. Are you?

After watching 2005 I know no win is set in stone. Last year when I started researching on Cal I was left thinking what in the hell have these guys done to get all this hype and love from the press?

I found nothing really earth moving and came to the conclusion that with us at home with Fulmers back to the wall (when Tennessee usually gets at it) that we would win. Now 35-18 I didn't expect but I liked our chances and I like them this year too.

All I was saying in my post, not well I guess, is I too am confident but would not say guaranteed. I really, really like our chances though.

exactly. Cal fans are not known to be overlly loud, but we have our moments. During the oregon game last year we rattled dixon rather early.

Ainge has played in:

The Swamp
Sanford Stadium
William Brice Stadium

just to name 3. I don't think Cal is that big of step for him or anyone on that team.

Cal fans think the PAC - 10 can compare with SEC play. That because being ranked higher in the final rankings with 1 more win than UT while going 0 - 2 against top 25 teams makes them a better team than UT when they where down by 35 after the 3rd quarter

agreed, but cal plays much better at home (undefeated at home in 04 and 06). Playing in a comfortable environment can not be discounted. and tenn will still be 2000 miles away in an unfamilar stadium. edit: all i'm saying is compared to LAST YEAR when it was a HUGE advantage to UT, now it is a slight advantage to Cal.

99% of Cal fans agree the SEC is #1. We just don't think Cal couldn't win the conference USA (like some vol fan here said).

The USC game was away in 04 and 06 right? That's why you were undefeated.

We don't think Cal is total crap. I don't at least. I'm just saying......here's what I'm saying. If an Arkansas fan came in here and talked some smack I would take it and be humble in my responces. Why? Because they handed us our asses last year.

Cal fans come in here asking us what were gonna do when Cal destroys us this year?? Seriously? Win something besides a Co-Championship in 35 years and then you can talk like that.

Also Cal (and other Pac-10 fans) want to ride USC's coattails to why the Pac-10 is a good conference. That is ridiclious.

in 05 our backup QB threw 4 ints in a blowout against SC. in 03 we won. Trust me, we play very well at home. Our average margin of victory has to be 4 times what it is on the road.
