Now, I realize I have become quite annoying, but I am a psyche major. I am trying to study the mindset of a Volunteer fan. It appears you are unwilling to even entertain the possibility of defeat. What I can gather from that is, should you lose (or rather when you lose) it will be devastating, no?

How did you feel last year mid-way through the 3rd quarter when it was 35-0? I mean I'm a Business major and just want to know if you purchasing trends and demand for products were the same. I'm trying to see if their is a correlation between getting that ass whipped and the market.
No, you are human beings. Human beings with a very interesting mindset. From birth you are conditioned to believe you are the best. So, I am keenly interested in knowing how you will react after a defeat to the worst team, (hands down) in the country, CAL.
In the past, when Tennessee has lost, it is devastating to many many Tennessee fans. Football always has been and always will be a way of life in the South.
I felt terrible; my entire life was thrown into disarray. If we had won, it would have been huge. As it is we lost, and lost bad. I was unable to buy or even think of purchasing anything.
So, that forms the basis of my question. In the past you lost to other SEC teams. This time you may lose to the Bears, a team many have no respect for. So I am curious how you will be able to recover (theoretically) if you lose to the Bears.
Thats against some of the studies I've read about sports fans buying trends. Some fans will try to feel better by buying things to take their minds off their teams short commings. Even though the products bought aren't say a Cal hat and jersey but they spend more money.

Theoretically, we would probably get over it the same way we did after an embarrassing loss to Vandy in '05...by thrashing a weak, overrated Pac-10 team the next season.
Well getting over the loss to Vandy was much easier. Some posters in here have already said that Vandy is about 100 xs better than Cal. Cal sucks, I mean I will admit it, they are the worst team out of all 119 D1 schools. I just think we will beat you. What does that say about Tenn though? A loss to Cal may stain your program FOREVER!

So pysche major, is there some kind of wrong about believing that you are the best. I know it's ethnocentric to some point but understanding that there are others are out there but believing that you will prevail if you do your best and execute to whatever task you maybe doing? Is there a wrong in that?
