Any Vols Coming out to California for the Cal Game?

Look guy, you know nothing about me, neither does anyone else in here. I know plenty about football, wtf do you want me to say to sound smart, huh, that Tennessee and the SEC are God’s gift and Cal sucks?

you don't get it my friend.

Fine, fine, I stand corrected. I know nothing of football because I refuse to accept that the SEC and Tennessee are the best in the land. I know nothing because I think Cal will win. I know nothing because I think we have a respectable team. Lastly, I know nothing because I am a Cal fan. I guess I really don’t get it, friend.

Then get off of here.

Don’t be a sellout to your team. Kowtowing to people who have no respect for Cal or the Pac 10 is not an honorable thing to do.

Of course there are some Tenn fans who are not like this, and I like you guys.
Not if they watched the game last fall...
Well buddy if you knew one thing about me you would not feel that way. I love football just as much as you do in the south, why else would I be spending all this time in here? There are many things I hate about California, namely, the lack of respect football gets. SO, I really think you misunderstand me. I love the respect football gets in the south. I wish we were fanatics out here, sadly, only I am…

Pretty much. Listen, you want me to respect Cal as a football team? They have to earn it, and the crap they brought to Knoxville in the fall only earned more jokes about how bad they are. :whistling:

If they were to actually WIN against us, ya know, on the field, that would go a long way to garnering my respect.

I've not read much but I know I hold the same sentiment as most UT fans that I talk to. Win something worthwhile before talking crap. What have you done to merit respect? The same goes for the Pac 10, other than USC. If you beat us, then you hold the right to mouth off. You proved nothing of the sort last year and lost quite a few playmakers. What makes you think that we should forfeit the game to you?

You all ride the coattails of USC's sucess. Win something for yourself (I'm looking at you Cal, Oregon, OSU, Arizona State) and then you can talk for yourselves instead of saying well USC won the NC so the Pac10 is dominant.

The nonconference schedule has been far easier for SC than the pac-10 schedule. They regurally blow out every nonconference opponent. Cal plays SC closer than any other team.

Tedford is 3-1 in bowl games (over Virginia Tech, BYU, and Texas A&M) with two embarassing losses (Tenn and Texas Tech). We can only beat the teams put in front of us. We've done OK, but obviously not enough to be considered among the nations elite. But who has put Cal among the nations elite? Corso? Anyone else?

There is no reason for debate. There is no reason to argue. What has changed since last year? Cal lost their best offensive weapon in Lynch. The same clown footed QB that looked lost at UT is still the starter. The D that allowed 35 points in 2 and a half quarters lost their two best players in Mebane and Hughes.

How can someone get on here and say "Cal will beat UT" when you look at it logically?

Not biased but UT lost their top 3 receivers. UT had one of the best WR classes in the nation as well as returning 4 guys that could start at WR. It sucks losing Meachem, but UT will not miss him as much as some people think.

Our D line was mediocre at best last year. UT lost Harrell shortly after the Cal game and was undersized at DT the rest of the season. UT had 2 of the top 15 DT's sign in the nation, one which enrolled early. Also, UT signed one of the highest rated DE's in the nation. I would say our D line just improved.

UT's DB situation is the only thing that looks like Cal might have an edge on them. BUT a starter that did not play in 06 comes back from injury, 2 JUCOs come in and the best CB prospect in the nation signed with UT.

So really, cheer for your team. But do not assume that Cal will win in a blowout. Do not assume Cal scares UT fans in any way. Do not think that DeSean Jackson will get a ball kicked his way. If your biggest weapon is a punt returner he can easily be taken out of the game by directional punting (kicking away from him) UT has one of the best punters in the SEC.

Here it is I posted it earlier and Calbears may not have got to see it. Let's have a response buddy

Whoever had them ranked #9 going into the 06' season.

It would make you sound smarter than coming on to an opponent's message board and talking unadulterated smack about a team that took Cal behind the woodshed only 7 short months ago.

Offensiveness begets offensiveness, which is not a good situation for one whose position in an argument is untenable based on recent history.

We had one person pick us to win the national title. His partner picked miami to win the national title. Yet all that get's mentioned is the Cal pick. How one guy's prediction somehow makes Cal an overrated team I have never understood.

edit: is cal considered an elite team if virtually no one picks them to win the NC or even their own conference?

Seriously, do you think asking questions like "What would you do *when* Cal beats you?" is discussing football? You have YET to show us any kind of actual analytical reasoning to your opinions. Many on this board will at least respect you when you have something to back up your assertions.

They are talking about the magazines that come out every year. It's not Cal's fault that people think too much of them. I'm not mad about them being overrated.

I am not trying to be a smartass so don't this the wrong way.

Cal was ranked #9 when they came to Knoxville last year. The ranking wasn't based on "one" person.

For a better perspective of Cal wanting respect, see the following: (the first 2 minutes will do)

Here's some very quick, easy, rough analysis:

Cal's front 7 from 2006 garnered little to no pressure on Erik Ainge in last season's meeting. Of those front 7 players, the best 3 have departed. Droski mentions that Cal's defensive weakness will be the DL.

Thus, when playing Tennessee, if you are unable to get pressure on Erik Ainge, the offense, regardless of how good your secondary is, and really, regardless of how inexperienced the WR crew will be, you will be eaten up. Erik Ainge's worst games were the few where he had no time to make reads.

Our offensive line loses it's best player and a player who was really mediocre. I think with the losses along Cal's DL and UT's OL, the scenario in the trenches when UT has the ball will remain the same as 2006. No pressure on Ainge.

Believe me, most UT fans are far from thinking Tennessee is a top tier team. We just think that you can't win big games outside your conference.

Agreed, that was far from respectable.

In fact, that was nothing short of humiliating.
I think that Tennessee could have won that game by at least 50 if they really wanted to. In retrospect, Phil probably should've run up the score just to avoid silly comments like the one I quoted in the last post.

Now there's a Cal Bear I could debate with. :eek:k:

I bet she would be smoking if she put a lil make up on. That being said the whole no makeup natural look might work for some. Me personally a little makeup maybe do something with the hair, then she's a 7.

Give her a break, she lives in a tree.
