Hey, I'm new here (and I'm DEFINITELY not CalBears). You guys have a great board here. Just to give you your due, the Vols definitely worked over our Bears last season. I was truly heartbroken. It was a great experience for our team, though, to experience a team with such tradition and fan lunacy, and with such swagger. The SEC is definitely a cut above the Pac-10 but we have our moments. That said, I don't feel the same way about the Big 10 or the Big 12, either. I think that for the most part the Pac-10 has more sophisticated offenses, and generally more speed than those slow-footed conferences. Michigan and Ohio State get the best athletes in the Big 10, but look at what Florida did to Ohio State. Texas is a cut above the Big-12, but they lost a close one to Texas A&M, who we sliced and diced in our bowl game, in case you missed it. And Oklahoma, while a perennial power, lost to Oregon, albeit in controversial fashion, and we completely dismantled the Ducks (I was there at that game). Bottom line is the Pac-10 does well against non-conference competition, but the SEC, sadly, is a different story. We still have a lot to prove against you guys. Top to bottom, it's the best conference in football.
Here are the details: we wouldn't make our predictions until August 21st or thereabouts. We can do all 6 major conferences, or just the Pac 10 and SEC. We each predict every single game for every single team - $1 each.
You don't predict a final record or anything, but you predict every game. See, Tennessee could finish 9-3, but I could predict the losses incorrectly and go 6-6 on Tennessee games.
We'd probably have a lot of the same picks for 70% of the games, but the others would be where the money was made. I expect to win at least $20 from you, if not more.
Fair point. That was definitely a ridiculously easy way to ease into the conference season after the shock-to-our-system that was Knoxville. We need to raise our non-conference competition if we hope to be considered a top-5 team. This year looks a little sad as well with Colorado State and Lousiana Tech (who?), in addition to the Vols. The main reasons, though, were that you played Minnesota and Portland State.
Surely you meant top 5 in the Pac 10.Fair point. That was definitely a ridiculously easy way to ease into the conference season after the shock-to-our-system that was Knoxville. i don't know squat about the big-12, acc, or big east. i'm willing to give a shot in the other 3 though.
Assuredly, I did not. I meant top 5 in the country, a place we definitely have the potential to get to. In 2004 we were #7 going into the USC game when they were #1 and we were on the 11 with three downs to punch in a score and win the game (and our receiver dropped a sure touchdown in that sequence). We would have definitely been in the top 5 after that victory. We ended the season higher than the Vols in the polls so I don't know what you're squawking about. I predict the Vols don't even finish top TEN in the nation this year.Surely you meant top 5 in the Pac 10.

Alright, if you disappear over the summer, make sure to reconvene (is that spelled right?) with me in August. We'll find a 3rd party unbiased person on this board (someone like Vol Freak or someone else) to be a "witness," if you will. We'll post our picks in the Pub forum or something a week before the first games. I'll figure out a more streamlined way then just putting 33 teams game by game. We'll also SEND the "witness" our picks, so we'll have the public record AND a saved copy, if that makes sense.
Every Big 10, Pac 10, and SEC team - $1 for each we get right. If we both get the same game right, it obviously is a push.

Well we have our own private board, if you personal message me I will give it to you. You cannot give it to the Tennessee folk though, can I trust you?
