Anybody don't want Texas A&M to join

And we all know how much they love their football in the nation's capital.

They're less of a cultural fit than Vandy.

The dc metro area (if you include NOVA and west Maryland) might have a higher population than the entire state of Tennessee. The television market is huge there and plenty of people watch football. Act like you've left the state before.

Edit from wikipedia:
DC metro pop: 5.6 million
Entire TN pop: 6.2 million

Didn't say I liked it, but I'm just telling it how it is. I want conferences to stay at 12 because that's the biggest they can get and have everyone play everyone else with at least some regularity.

But the money is the only thing that matters, which is why VaTech is a good fit.

I can appreciate that.

I'm only saying that saying that comparing the DC metro area to Vandy's fanbase is laughable. When Vandy has a 6 million person market then your point will be more valid.

But I'm not trying to bash on you. I like the contributions you make.

I don't buy one bit of it when conference commissioners or school presidents go on about acedmic, cultural fits or all-around athletic success. It's a crock of shiz, the only thing they're asking while considering adding new teams is "how much money can their fans and new markets make us?"

Utah is a crap school in a state full of Mormons, but the Pac-10 gladly accepted them because they brought the SLC market and lots more eyes and dollars to the conference.

Hardly. Arkansas was one year removed from back-to-back conference championships. Remember the 1990 Cotton Bowl?

When was the last time TAM won a conference championship?

Arkansas was a train wreck two years in progress when they started playing in the SEC.

In spite of the Okie Lite loss at home, y'all can still finish strong (good enough to beat anyone else in the conference except Oklahoma), which would make for a nice starting point to get recruits into the SEC.

According to Slive, a lot.

Do you really want to compare Texas dollars to Wasington DC dollars? I doubt those folks know the Redskins are playing Dallas tonight.

Don't really have a dog in this fight, but the Redskins are the second most valuable NFL franchise in the league at 1.5 Billion, right behind the cowgirls. Just sayin'...

I live 2.5 hours away from DC and everyone I know is watching this game. The redskins make ridiculous money and fill the largest pro stadium in the country every week...even in the crappy years.

Well right now, Today, I think A&M could legitimately beat Vandy, KY, Arky, Georgia, S. Carolina, Ole Miss, State, Auburn...and have a good shot at the rest so I think they will do ok. And they have a great following and good traditions. Just accept that this is the way its gonna go in this decade, and we should try and get the beset possiblle matches for the SEC before we end up with a low end, no tradition school.

Hundo bet on Arky over A&M straight up..

With the exception of the College Park area and north I think that Tech has a lot of fans in maryland too. There is a lot of Tech gear here.

They all Va Tech fans too?

It's hard to know, but I'd guess that a greater percentage of VA/DC are tech fans than texans are A&M fans. Texans have choices. Virginians don't. I say this as someone with degrees from UVA. It's VT or nothing if you like a winner.

Pretty fair considering the size of DC is comparable to Harris county. I mean, when you're that small, it is what it is right?
