Anyone else believe in Butch but not the Assistants?

I feel that our assistants are underprepared for the roles that they have been thrown in for the most part. I feel like butch is the man, but I feel it may difficult for him to cut ties with some of them when it comes down to it.. I feel like we may need to make a change at DC and maybe even OC when the year is over. I expect that no one will be fired at the end of this year, but another mediocre year, and things will have to change... Will Butch fight for his assistant coaches? Or is he all in at doing what it takes to save his friends from losing their jobs?

It just seems to me that butch is very very loyal as he kept most of his coaches from his old staff.

The operative words in your post are, "it seems to me." In other words you freely admitted you don't know what you're talking about.

Part of me wants to assign blame to the assistants, but I try to keep in mind that no team in the country has had as tough a schedule as the Vols this season. That sort of schedule would be intimidating for even a well-seasoned staff that's been working together for years. So, I won't judge them too harshly until I see what they're able to do, or not do, over the course of a couple more years.

Honestly the schedule is brutal, the truth is I think they thought they would be 6-4 right now and they are getting a reality check this season. The talent gap is worse than they thought, seems to me.

Hard to believe you believe in the man but you can't understand his belief in his assistants. Explain!

the next two games are the biggest of their careers.. if they lose either than most will know they r in trouble long term. fans support drop with each loss n well u know how/that story.ends.

dools n kiff made bowls their first year if this staff doesnt then u have question if they will ever beat the big boys based on their system.

Enough with the negative vibes. Butch has great assistants who work together well and best of all recruit well. Let's see what they can do with players they recruited. We need to keep the staff together.

The assistants are doing fine. I know our defense is struggling a lot now, but early in the season, they kept the game close and winnable. Defense is a HUGE improvement from being the worst D in UT history last year (same players too). Receivers have improved a lot, we have run the ball with more success than we've seen since 2009, and Palady is playing like an all-American.

Perspective, people!! Most of the problem is talent level, not coaching this year.

Would firing the assistants improve recruiting and lend a greater sense of stability to a program that has had a new position coach for each group almost every year for the past 5 years?

If so, I'm all for it! In fact, let's fire assistants after every loss!

The biggest problem I have is that the Defense has actually gotten worse at the basics over the season. Poor tackling, poor stance, poor reads, and Jancek has yet to even try to come up with anything to combat a mobile quarterback. I just don't understand how he can watch this much game film with us getting smoked when the quarterback runs, and not craft some defensive scheme that at least tries to stop him.

I think CBJ and Co. will get it done.

I think Tennessee is on the way back.

It just doesn't feel like Tennessee is burning down with CBJ as in past years.

Tennessee Vols will be the Vols of old sooner than later imo.

The haters are gona hate no matter what.

I would also guess some of the people that constantly spew negative crap on VN are from other teams.

Take idiots for what they are and say GO VOLS!

Can we at least finish a season before these threads come up?

You ask that now? These threads starting appearing about 2 minutes after the Oregon game ended.

EXACTLY!

Dooley had major staff shake up every year (mostly due to coaches jumping ship). How did that work out for him?

Butch has his guys. He knows them and they know him. Team chemistry applies to the staff as well.

I am just fine with his assistants. We transitioning both Offense and D with subpar talent. These guys haven't been in the system a year yet guys please be patient. With good players who have the right skill set they will win. It's honestly going to take us getting rid of at least 50% of the Dooley players on the roster to be able to compete again.
