Anyone else believe in Butch but not the Assistants?

Yeah, that's probably why Connor Shaw ran all over us and we got blown out at home against South Carolina.

OH WAIT

Shaw rushed for 78 yards at 4.1 ypc. Which is more than either of our running backs that game. So just because we ended up winning, doesn't mean we stopped the running QB

Here's some sad numbers

Quarterback Rushing Numbers
Austin Peay - 2/-5
Western Kentucky -2/-10
Oregon - 7/35
Florida - 10/84
S. Alabama - 10/75
Georgia - 3/55
S.Carolina - 19/78
Alabama - 1/1
Missouri - 13/114
Auburn - 14/214

That's a total of 640 yards that that quarterbacks have rushed against this defense so far this year. Do you still think that Jancek has any clue as to how/what to teach these players to do to stop the qb keep?

I'm not sold on the staff either. But Butch and his process has been proven to work with these guys at all his previous stops. They were successful there and the hope is it will be here too. Success at Cincy and Central Michigan may not automatically translate to success in the SEC but at least we didn't hire someone who had never succeed like Dooley again.

Only time will tell.

Exactly - biggest thing about these assistant coaches is that they will do things the way Butch wants them done. He has a system and it will take a bit for everyone to fully integrate it but thats what the coaches are for - so that it is HIS system. Not only the coaches, but all players are going to play it too or they will be rolled out by new recruits. Now whether that system that worked well for cincy will work for Knoxville is a question that will be answered in the next 2-3 years but he does have a clear plan.

I feel that our assistants are underprepared for the roles that they have been thrown in for the most part. I feel like butch is the man, but I feel it may difficult for him to cut ties with some of them when it comes down to it.. I feel like we may need to make a change at DC and maybe even OC when the year is over. I expect that no one will be fired at the end of this year, but another mediocre year, and things will have to change... Will Butch fight for his assistant coaches? Or is he all in at doing what it takes to save his friends from losing their jobs?

It just seems to me that butch is very very loyal as he kept most of his coaches from his old staff.

No.

It kills me that you guys just cant figure out how bad most of our talent is. On Defense we have like perhaps 1 or 2 players that would actually start on say the like of an Alabama or Lsu, but as usually the people on this board wanna fire every coach cause of our lack of pure talented players with zero speed and knack for making solo plays. Trust me with 2 more years of solid recruiting on both sides of the ball, everyone will chill out.

Bottom line, relax stop putting the coaches on the firing line, they are doing the best with what they have...

Now I will eat my post if some of you have actually been at a practice and heard the coaches preaching bad technique or seen them in the coaching film room putting together a bad game plan for a game.

Yea, very solid analysis...

The defense Jancek employs, which I think is called the " do not tackle, pursue and be out of position constantly" is not working.

Many have tried to convince him to ask his players to tackle, but he is stubborn and he will only run his own defense.

...

I was under the impression that coaches didn't ask players to do things a certain way, but teach them to do it that way. If most of the players are not playing fundamentally sound football, maybe, just maybe, they aren't being coached well. Ya think?

I had a long drawn out answer and changed it because the OP's question is silly. Even if we were to lose to both UK and Vandy you keep the staff together if only to not shake things up on recruiting. No matter how many times you tell people that the team sucked (depth, injuries, talent, strength vs schedule, etc.) before the season began the homers still think you will win 9 or 10 games. Just silly.

I'm happy with all the assistants except Jancek. I think he needs some help with calling the defensive sets/plays. Most think he is an experienced DC but he's really not. Jancek has one season of actually calling defensive plays and that was last year at Cincinnati. I just don't think he has enough DC experience going against the quality and variety of offenses in the SEC.

2009 at UGA Willie Martinez made the calls
2010-11 at Cincinnati Tim Banks made the calls

I agree with this and looking at Jones past he has used the co-DC title several times. Do you think that is a possibility here?

I doubt it unless there is some staff turnover the prompts a new hire on the defensive side. I don't see CBJ making anyone on the current staff a CO-DC.

I think Jancek is a good position coach but does seem to struggle with adjustments during the game. I thought we played a good first quarter against Auburn but they adjusted and we did not.

Lol what an idiot. THIS YEAR HAS GONE AS EXPECTED BY EVERYONE EXCEPT SOME IDIOTS ON VOLNATION.
And yes I'm yelling.

You can yell all you want but how about instead be honest and tell us that before this year you really expected to lose (and let's not even talk about getting blown out) to Mizzou and Auburn?

Can we at least get some recruiting classes in here under Butch before we go firing coaches. Good grief people. These kids Butch is coaching is Dooleys recruits We had Worley start at QB. He started how many games last year? Now we have a freshman QB. Nick Saban could not take this team and do a better job.

Martinez is the only one I've had doubts about. They could drop him and it wouldn't break my heart.

You can't compare last years offense to this years offense.... Talent level is no where near on the same level, other teams are loading the box man on the wr's because our qb's have struggled. This isn't a coaching problem it's more of a previous staff problem. These are dooley's players last year was kiffin's players so calm down and grab some pop corn

How many previous staff problems do we endure before regaining prominence? The buck has to stop somewhere. Dog and pony with no results that show.

The assistants just signed a top 2 or 3 class in the country.. And this is the thanks they get??? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??!!

:ermm:Saban signed the number one class at Bama his first year too(probably the best of the decade), but that didn't stop him from changing both coordinators. I guess TN has got use to 6-6.

i look at it as Worleys a freshmen,it's not like he has had a lot of playing time and i don't think there will be many if any firing of assistant coaches for a couple of years,CBJ has laid his foundation, now we will see if the bricks will lay plumb

I think Mark Richt is a loyal coach, but he fired Jancek and Martinez. Im sure he had reasons. It will be interesting to see if the defense improves over the next two years.

It should be obvious by now to all that this team is made up of many kids who just don't take coaching. You here it for yourselves in the press conferences. Butch tells us what the team needs to be doing on kickoffs, and defense, etc... And then we all watch the players do things totally different. This tells me that they have been coached, and practiced to do it the way Butch said 2,3,4 weeks ago in his presser, but the players aren't actually doing what they are coached to do. I think this is one BIG reason Butch is bringing in 30+ this year. It is house cleaning time. But this time Butch is bringing in SEC caliber players who will take coaching. New attitude. New breed on the Hill.

Every now and then you get a post that makes sense and sees things for what it is. This.

That's where some of you are clueless. The players are being taught the fundamentals. They are being taught how to tackle in space. They are being taught angles and anticipating where the player is going to be not where he is. They are taught this at every practice and Jancek, Martinez and Thig drill it over and over. They're being taught their respective positions but they don't execute on the field. That's not coaching, that's players.

Didn't expect to lose to missouri last year. And no one expected missouri and auburn to be top 10 teams this year either.

But Auburn improved a lot from last year and we did not (and they were worse than us last year). The reason is better coaching (because they obvious have mostly the same players as last year just like we do). While I like CBJ I think Malzahn is better - in a different league to be honest and he could be the next Spurrier like coach in terms of dominating SEC for many years (I actually would not be surprised if they beat Bama this year).
