Anyone else believe in Butch but not the Assistants?

I do not trust our assistants anywhere near as much as I trust Jones. Next year will tell the ale IMO. If there is not significant improvement then replacing the assistants will be a valid conversation.

The only way I would say get rid of our current assistants is if one of the premier assistants wants to come here like Chavis, Mushchamp, Smart or Frost.

I do not want Chavis or his prevent defense.

So we have Chavis and Wilcox in one camp (more prevent), and Sunseri and Jancek in the other (aggressive blitzing).
Who do you think has been more successful (hint - it's not a trick question)?
Now, if we had a bunch of super fast/strong five star players all over the defense perhaps we could play more aggressive style - but given that we (and most other schools) don't we should increase our chances by playing bend and don't break - that's just the reality.

I won't try to judge Jones or the coaches this year as they were handed a bum hand with no face cards and are trying to play poker with the big boys. The cards were certainly staked against all of the coaches. I've tried to be patient for the last 7-8 years, so a few more years really won't be too much to ask. It's just hard to watch the Vols get pummeled almost every game.

The assistants just signed a top 2 or 3 class in the country.. And this is the thanks they get??? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??!!

Dang I must have Rip Van Winkled the end of '13....who did we sign on Feb 5th 2014???

Seriously...what day is today??

Once we get all the Dooley Boys out of there we will be fine.

Same thing could have been said during the Dooley Era. He wasn't given the time to weed out the Fulmer and kiffen players. Which many were detrimental not only on the field but also off of it. One thing Dooley did is go try and get solid kids off the field. CBJ isn't having to deal with the likes Of Bryce Brown or Jansen Jackson. Yes he got fouled by the likes of D. Rogers and Cam Clear but he handle them accordingly when the time called for it. How many of the current players is CBJ having to kick off or discipline for off the field issues??

2 yrs in a row Dooley had to kick the best players on the team off during fall camp. CBJ just needs to get the best out of the current players which is something so many said he could do when he was hired.

These players played a really tough schedule last year so acting like they don't know how to is ridiculous. And they made games out of most of them too.

I see a spot or 2 that's worth looking at.

Evaluating staff members is not much different than evaluating players or recruits.

Yes new assistants will a ) overcome the massive depth problem that the defense has that will only allow them to compete for 1 to 2 quarters. They will systematically 'coach up' the squad guys and will force the cheerleaders to endure a few reps
b) they will use a Total Recall like brain programming to infuse Dobbs with 100 years of experience from the greatest QBs to play the game. Rather than taking a season and off season to become a consistent force he will be there overnight. If it does not work, the will use genetic therapy to turn Worley into a Manning brother.
---
And certainly , after they have walked on water , these new coaches will take us from the shame of the #2 recruiting class to the undisputed #1 class

U do realize that these players on D played way into the 2nd half last year right?? I know so many of yall want to bash last yrs D but they competed to the end at least. The '12 Vols may not have had the best of seasons but the teams they played prior to the Vandy game (and maybe Bama cause heck it's Bama right now) walked off the field respecting the way they played hard.

Bajakin is doing fine. The offense is doing fine considering everything that has happened.

Jancek...................We'll see.......not really sold. Haven't been from day one. But he doesn't have much to work with.

This is a reasonable post. I do think he jancek has more than most think to work with. But reasonable nonetheless.

I am not covering for the coach ...but one only has to look at the roster to see how thin the D is ...specifically the front 7. There is no 3 deep ...there is barely a 2 deep. This spells TRAIN WRECK late in games especially and late in the season . Last season was a little different in that they ran a 34. The OC and QB dont know where the run gaps are pre-snap. They approach with a little more caution. The D still suffered from the same problems they do now and fell apart at some point ..they were not playing this schedule either.

I just dont think you can accurately measure the defensive staff now. When the new class hit next season and we see upgraded but very young depth ...I would expect to see some progress

They actually haven't signed them yet professor..this staff has farted 3 games away with their lack of understanding that SEC teams don't lay down like Western Michigan and Toledo ..this doesn't mean he doesn't get my full support..just expected improvement or at the least a upward swing on the learning curve..we got neither after the USC game

You bend enough and sooner or later, usually at the most critical of times, you break.

Screw bend but don't break. Tennessee needs and should have a defense that makes people scared to be on the field with them. Guys that run through blocks and make your teeth rattle when they hit you.
Guys that make RBs not want to run. Guys that intercept so many passes, QBs are afraid to throw. Guys who make opposing coaches want to forfeit games but the NCAA won't let them. Guys who break people. To h3ll with bending.

Heres the deal....there not going anywhere ..Butch can't fire his son's buddies daddy...he's in too deep for firing....besides they haven't proved the need firing there doing great IMO...

I feel that our assistants are underprepared for the roles that they have been thrown in for the most part. I feel like butch is the man, but I feel it may difficult for him to cut ties with some of them when it comes down to it.. I feel like we may need to make a change at DC and maybe even OC when the year is over. I expect that no one will be fired at the end of this year, but another mediocre year, and things will have to change... Will Butch fight for his assistant coaches? Or is he all in at doing what it takes to save his friends from losing their jobs?

It just seems to me that butch is very very loyal as he kept most of his coaches from his old staff.
What a bunch of crap!

We could always get Kiffin as OC he told Dan Patrick we would come back to SEC and go down to OC in seperate questions.

Orrrr... we could keep Jake cuz their is nothing wrong with this offense.

What OC would win with our QB insanity? Be serious dude.

Also, Butch won with them at CMU AND Cincy. Why wouldn't he retain them?

After all the turn over of coaches in the last few years I don't think anyone can make fair assessment of the current staff. The players they have were recruited by several different coaches for several different systems. It logical that this year was going to be rough. I wanted more than I got from them but to be fair it will be the middle of 2015 before we have a good picture of how this staff is going to preform long term. I know it's frustrating but the program needs stability more than anything at the moment. As fans we have to let CBJ at least get some of his guys on the field. If we are not improving after 2015 we have a problem. It is what it is.
