Anyone with insight to how this played out??

This is true. The Gruden stuff had reached a point that even if the man had come out and actually said "Screw Tennessee!", it would have been brushed off as a smokescreen. Hell, his agent practically did that and it was ignored.

This exactly is my point, that and there doesn't seem to be this mythical rift between Hart and the big boosters.

I was wishing for Gruden. I dream big, but; didn't have a clue who would be selected. I truly wish CBJ the best and will support my VOLS. With all that said, until he runs through the T next year, it's not done! :)

(Oooooh..... post 69!)

It is as simple as this...

Taking a job (any job) has some inherent risk to it.

Jon Gruden wanted this job to have no risk associated with it while being guaranteed a pant-load of money no matter if he was successful, quit, or got fired.

If they would have agreed with him, he would have come to Knoxville. Since his demands were unrealistic, they told him no.

Pretty simple.

Guys,

This has been one of the most humorous things I've ever seen in my life. Not piling on but any jackwagon that came on here and said that it was a done deal was seen as gospel by so many people...because so many wanted to believe it so badly (See VolReporter). Any opposition to this view was met with great hostility.

Gruden came out on Mike & Mike and said the rumors weren't true and there were 30 threads started about breaking down every word trying to decipher "which" rumors weren't true. Yes, it was just another smoke-screen. I get it.

I'm sure this has been all over this site, but this says it all! Grudemonium 2012: The Knoxville Edition - YouTube

It is amazing the **** people told me that I bought in to. There was no animosity today between Hart and the Boosters. I listened to Haslam praise the hire and Butch Jones throughout the press conference. He laughed and talked to Hart at the meet and greet like they are old friends. This rift between boosters and Hart is a fantasy imo.

Cheek stood alone a lot, didn't really engage and didn't seem all that happy but maybe that's just Cheek. Had never been around him before so not sure lol.

Bcarter... what would you expect them to do...air out their dirty laundry in public. That is not a place to have any public display of disapproval...geeee

You may be correct, I have no way of knowing, but either the guy who placed his creditability on line in Chatt was a liar or you are just to naive.

Not sure which...

Here is what I think(No Sources Claimed)

Current NFL Coaches Salaries
Bill Belichick $7.5 million
Mike Shanahan $7 million
Jeff Fisher $7 million
Pete Carroll $7 million
Lovie Smith $6 million
Mike Tomlin $5.8 million
Andy Reid $5.5 million

NFL Salaries are only gonna keep going up because the NFL keeps getting bigger and bigger. We can not approach those type of numbers. San Diego and Phily will probably both get in a bidding war for Gruden and one will make him a top 3 paid coach(He does have a super bowl ring). He may have kicked the tires, but we were never really in it despite his wife or property or whatever else is claimed. Our budget doesn't begin to approach an NFL budget. It's why Saban and Spurrier both gave it a shot when they were in very near perfect situations. Always follow the money trail, it usually leads to the truth! JMHO!

Not sure which...

Not a liar, just misinformed by the same people fueling a lot of this and presented it in a favorable light. I'm not sharing everything or anything I heard today specifically but I no longer have an ounce of doubt in my position and that's the first absolute I have stated in this entire mess.

People will forget his Gruden story shortly anyway, most not in the forums have already.

smh

Don't worry, we still don't think you are important or have any sources. Chances are what you "heard" and it being some big secret is BS.

This "inside info, I'm know more than you, and I can't tell you" crap is comical at this point.

they are getting this junk from another site that is a pos with a bunch of pos posters that don't know squat. Just a bunch of big talkers that amount to no good info, outside of some game analysis here and there.

up to a point you're right, but the article in the Chattanooga Times Free Press gave it legitmacy, and even though Gruden denied it swiftly, that's to be expected..See Saban to Bama

Yea I found that out throughout this, but not just them, people in my personal life. Like I said I think a group of mid levels thought they were Thorntons and Haslams.

I feel very foolish some of the things I bought into that I shared, not sure what else to say. You are one of the posters here I now respect the most tbh.

buddy, I think a lot of us fell into the same situation.... but it was sorta fun, right??

Your response to the TFP article, which sourced boosters, a potential staff member who is a current sec coach, and a third he didn't quote in the article but referenced in his radio discussions? And also Stargis stating in public he personally saw text messages between these people and Gruden proving Gruden's sincere interest and expectation for taking the job? I think you're overstating the opposite case now.

Man everyone at every level got caught up in this to a certain extent. No offense, we have differing opinions but neither matter now tbh. Past is the past. I'm ready to watch recruiting and see this thing come together, I think we will see Coach Jones rise to the occasion.

I don't know what to believe but I do believe Gruden was in play. I would assume if the deal was doable, within reason, (the main area for interpretation) he'd be our coach.

What I know is that Hart mismanaged this search in an epic manner. What I do know is that the last 4 years of turnover and buyouts and losing are what is crushing our ability to compete. I believe we need a COMPETENT coach to have time, resources and fan support to get us back on track.
I pray Butch Jones is capable of winning games within this conference.

The coach he contacted was supposedly the Griden guy who called the claim "ridiculous" and had nothing to do with his decision to step down.

I'd be curious to know what SBV's stance is on this.

That was coincidentally in the middle of the night the same time it's rumored to have fallen through. Something happened boosters are said to have been refunded money over this deal. Idk

I don't know why any TFP report means it's a factual story. That that one Hargis guy reports something means nothing. What sources did they cite? Unnamed? Shocking. Memphis reported some stuff, and it wasn't correct.

It was a front page story with sources vetted by the sports editor and general editor. The facts of that story have never been disputed.
