Apparently, we didn't impress Arky State fans

Go back and compare the USU game to WKU and USA last year. The passing game has taken a massive step forward.

Actually... there's no guarantee that USCe is a "much better" D than USU right now. They have better players but they looked slow and lost a lot of 1 on 1 match ups.

We'll get a better idea this week when they play ECU... but they may in fact not be a good team.

What's the point of making a comparison to WKY?

They had six consecutive turnovers inside their 50 that led to easy drives for the Vols. Wasn't much need of a passing game that Saturday.

And the big thing Worley didn't do was turn the ball over against USU was the 3 interceptions against S AL.

Maybe I just expect too much out of our quarterback.

Seems like not throwing interceptions is something that should be expected, not celebrated and trumpeted as some kind of breakout performance.

That being said, there are more play makers on this squad and Worley did look more in control. Let's see how he looks against better competition though.

Did you factor in a senior versus a sophomore making his first start on the road in a hostile environment against a far superior opponent?

When you have a performance like Hill did, it's understandable that Worley got lost in the shuffle.

It was a solid effort but nothing spectacular.
He played within his system and "did his job". Get used to it. What he did is more or less what Jones' O asks a QB to do. Manage the game, make the throws, run a couple of times per game,....

Unlike some on here, I didn't have flashbacks to Peyton Manning or Tee Martin setting the completion record Sunday night.
Who are those "some"? Worley has been criticized, belittled, and dismissed by many here for months. Even those who were supportive were relieved to see him play that well.

It's more like AJ Suggs at this point.
Sorry. But that is flat out ridiculous. You just discredited any other argument you might try to make. That comment indicates blatant, blind bias...

Effectiveness and efficiency comparison.

No. You appreciate performance too little. Hopefully no one thinks this means Worley has arrived as an elite QB. But you've taken the opposite position... you've dismissed all positives from his performance except for the lack of turnovers.

Worley's management and 70% completion rate WAS the UT offense against a team that prides itself on being a good defense.

Not all of us only saw that as a positive. You are trying too hard to dismiss Worely's performance for whatever reason...

Why didn't you just do that to start with?

What Hill did was phenomenal, no discounting about it. It was a show for the ages. But you can't make a blanket statement about yards, which you originally did, when one had 40% more attempts. Maybe Worley and Co. break a few big ones and he throws for 700 yards who knows.

The AJ Suggs comparison is not only insulting it's completely off basis. AJ didn't even earn the starting job to begin the season and then lost the job to a true FR like 5 games into the season and took his ball and went home after that. Worley's already achieved more than AJ ever did at UT.

arky st qb is more athletic than the guy we just played. Question is I can't tell how fast. I looked at their site and watched highlights from their coach's show. I'm like, damn, they look aggressive and fast. Then I look and see the old ref is running about a 3.8 40.
The game film is sped up at times when they show it. Nice try fellas.

Some people will never be happy unless they have something to complain about.

Worley played a very solid game. He took charge of the offense and I never once saw him become unnerved during the game. He actually picked apart USU's Db's.

I'm sick of hearing people say "but, he didn't hit the long pass". So the EFF what! Those will come as the team gets used to playing at game speed together. He threw for 270+ yds! If he had thrown a couple of 40-50 yd passes and totaled 270 yds, you morons would be saying "if it wasn't for the long passes..........."

We did not impress ark st fans, but that is to be assumed since they are a program that actually is used to winning games against solid teams like texas a&m and ball state. not to mention they almost beat MIZZOU last year at mizzou, and MIZZOU was a very good team last year for all who forgot. It'll be a better game than Utah state. -GOVOlS

That's true.

Kenny Hill didn't hit the long ball either but South Carolina's QB did. Worley and Hill's stats and how and where they connected and for what average are nearly identical - the only difference is that Hill threw it more. Stats are odd things though, if you go by raw yardage Carolina's got a top 5 QB in the league Kentucker does too and Bo's INTs are all good:

Exactly. Also.....had they put a sixth pic on there, it would have been Worley.

The Tenn. Seperated at birth thread they have is funny as hell, wish we had one. Anyone want's a good laugh go check it out on their scout board.

Suggs threw interceptions on the out plays. Worley had no turnovers. Bad comparison.

The vertical passing game of Utah State's defense made it very hard to gain separation. They were playing 8 yards off our receivers and sprinting off backwards when the ball was hiked. We still took a couple of shots because of our talent.

No highschool team would ever beat a college team. Unless it was a division 3 or 2 school and they r playing high school all Americans. College is another level of play. Much stronger and faster. An average highschool maybe has 3-5 scholarship players. The development is a huge difference regardless if your tennessee or fcs. With that being said tennessee will probably clear 4 touchdown win with some fight in the first quarter. Freshman have to stay focused on Arkansas state and not be thinking Oklahoma in the back of their heads. Oklahoma doesn't even need to enter their brain at all Saturday. Every game is the national championship game as fulmer told us. U can't go and compete with the big dawgs without beating the the smaller schools along the way.

I want you to know

And I must add. No state has talent like Texas or Florida when it comes to highschool football. Peewee leagues are sold out for the games in those states. Friday night lights is a reality in those states. Yet despite that talent, they wouldn't beat a college team. Wouldn't be close. It's like saying bama could beat a nfl team. It wouldn't be close even if the nfl team started their 3rd stringers. In the nfl and in college, the best players from every school are playing. Hell, I was cut from an nfl squad. There is a lot of talent. Look at cordarrelle patterson. He didn't have the grades so he played juco. That happens a lot. Schools like arky state get quality players.

I didn't read any of this.

Checked it out, was hilarious. However they must not be fans of our "girls of" threads.

Didn't know you were being sarcastic. It's all good

I was poking fun at arkie state. Just like I do the hogs. I wasn't being literal. Apparently I found a arkie state alum that took offense

I generally stay out of the football forum. What I know to be fact about football can be put on a 3x5 index card.

All I do know, is I saw a vast improvement on the field Sunday. I'm very happy.
