'24 AR LB Wyatt Simmons (Arkansas commit)

That's no big deal. He is a huge Tennessee fan, on your word. He has an offer now.

It sounds more and more like you and maybe some others acting the same way are instigating drama. But all of this is immaterial. Just let it go.

You don't need an explanation or excuse, in case he goes elsewhere. He is living his own life. It's not your offer, and you are not him.

Makes it sound like they expected Heup to show up and fix them dinner before getting on one knee and declaring that the kid has an offer to play ball at UT and handing the family a big bag of NIL money. I wish him well but if there is this much drama already, maybe this isn't a good culture fit.

The OP of that separate thread is definitely doing his best to make it sound as if the recruit is a prima donna. But I doubt seriously that the recruit, or his coach father, or his family are overwrought or drama fans.

I feel bad for Wyatt and his family that MPW has manufactured this drama in their name. It is in no way representative of our fan base.

And I don't think it is in any way representative of Wyatt and his family. I bet they are the calm and reasonable opposite of the MPW.

IMG_2598.gifTheres no proof of anything. So far they texted a recruit he has an offer. wgas?

So a recruiting analyst (assuming the guy he tagged in his post) texted the kid that he had an offer which was the very first contact by TN.

So does he is fact have an offer from TN or did the recruiting analyst jump the gun?

Was the offer a PWO?

Am I missing something?

You wouldn't be happy if it was your son

Lol. I walked onto a college team before ever having any communication with any assistants much less coaches. I'd be perfectly happy if my son joined the program as a walk on in the same way. The idea that because the offer came via text message from an assistant it's some sort of huge transgression is insane.

Soo I’m going to play devils advocate here. Maybe if the dad and the kid are fans of the program and fans of Heupel, maybe they expected a little better or more from the program? Add to that text messages are extremely informal anyways and who knows. I can also see this from the assistant side of things as recruiting may be the single most taxing aspect of being a coach.

We can go back and forth and insult the family and Moses but likely they expected better, we didn’t put our best foot forward and it is what it is. Simply wish the kid and his family the best of luck and everything is going to be alright going forwards.

I think this is fair. But I had assumed that first contact with a recruit often comes through text or sometimes even social media DM or something like that.

Who knows about the kid, but I think it is now well established that Mose Phillip’s Watch is a huge diva.

Maybe.

I would point out he was attacked by a lot of posters when he dropped in to get in contact with the program about the kid. Now we’re pissed bc he’s a little shy about providing details of what happened?
Maybe I’m just naive and assuming the best in people but I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt here.

He wasn’t a little bit shy in blaming Heupel. But didn’t give any details.

It just sounds like offense might be being taken where none was intended. And if Wyatt is that salty about how it went down, he should try and keep the main thing the main thing. You are going to let some guy in the recruiting office keep you from playing at your dream school? Most Vol fans would crawl across broken glass to get the opportunity.

Again I’m not taking their side on this but I can understand the family being hurt and blaming the program. Heupel is the face of the program. Really think this is all a communication failure though

I'm my limited understanding/experience first contact is a text or DM to introduce a comnection. I agree it's kinda weird to throw an offer out in first contact. Probably should've texted and asked if he was available for a call.

I'd be a little annoyed but the foot is in the door. Didn't get a red carpet. Put the boots on and earn the snaps. Youre a small fish in a big pond at UT. You already know the path to starting at UT at that position is a tough one and you're going to get recruited over so you'll have to constantly battle for snaps your entire career and may never start. If you want to ensure playing time, go be a big fish in a small pond, have a great career and give the league a shot. Nothing wrong with that.

We don’t even know what all of this is.

My thoughts…Wyatt has probably received all his offers via call or in person. So he began dreaming about Tennessee making the call, being on the phone with CJH. He’s thinking and wishing for that for weeks when he receives the text. I imagine I could just see him staring at his phone like “What….?”

And it probably hurt a little bit. I think Moose exaggerated this a little so we were expecting to be much worse, so now we are confused due to the drama that was built, when in reality CJH will call him and it’ll be fine.
