Are VNers actually planning not to get the vaccine, and if so why not?

I'm not getting the vaccine because ...

So you would be in the camp that the benefits aren't worth it.

Let me ask, though, are there people in your life, people at home, family, that you should protect by getting the vaccine ?
Should protect? Like he should go around giving them them the vaccine?

No.

By getting the vaccine you reduce to near zero the possibility that you will get the virus and pass it on to someone else.
There have been several reports saying even after getting the vaccine you can still spread it.

Also as PJ pointed out you still have to mask and distance after vaccine.

So where is your near 0 coming from?

If the vulnerable and those with comorbidities are vaccinated, what is the risk of me, unvaccinated, spreading to those who are vaccinated?

Recent studies have placed asymptomatic spread at about 1 out of three cases. Moderna vaccine initial efficacy study shows a possible 2/3 reduction in asymptomatic spread of those who contracted Covid with the vaccine. The numbers are super small, so longer study is needed. However, that would put the chance of spreading it to “near zero,” though “further research is necessary.”

If people in my life need protected then shouldn’t it be them getting the vaccine?
This is an actual scenario for me.

My sister is afraid of Covid and will get the shot(s). She has asked the rest of us to get the shots too, for her protection. She doesnt want to be around people who can spread it. My other sister will have to get it for her job, my parents both had Covid so wont get the vaccine, even though sister 1 wants them too. I wont. If that means she avoids me, so be it.

Now if for some reason she cant get the vaccine, I would then get the vaccine to be around her.

The reason? Under most circumstances it is the individuals responsibility to protect themselves. She wants protection, she gets the vaccine. Internally consistent. Now if she cant, that would be a pretty weird situation, and I would then choose to get the vaccine. Choice vs requirement. I pretty much dont care where the requirement comes from. I dont get pushed around.

You/the government/my work has a far better chance of getting to comply if you ask rather than require.

I think the point is right. You were already unlikely to catch and spread (during Tennessee's peak it was 1 out of 1000 people had it). A vaccine with 95% efficacy puts those odds close to zero. And for those already infected, the odds of reinfection is like 1 in 10 million.

But I also agree that if you want to be protected, take it yourself. Don't force others to get it. This is purely a power trip. " We won, now take your medicine deplorables."

I can see some jobs requiring it, ie hospital or doctors office. I've not heard that any government is requiring it.

Unfortunately, I can see it coming. Plus, if you want to travel, I can see them requiring it.

It really sucks that you have people that want to force you to inject an unproven vaccine.
