But, we could help! If we were to Pay Arky to $2,000,000.00 to take butch, we'd come out way ahead! We painted ourselves in a corner, but some how we came up with the buy-out money, for boy butch and don't forget the 5 million for the dooley buyout ( I believe he got something like 1.4 million a year until paid). After Dooley and boy butch, one might have thought about getting better negotiators for UT's side. By better I mean, not drunk, not smoking crack, and having a brain that functions. When we compare our contracts to other schools, you'll find many schools have Pay for Performance aspects to their HC's contract-win and get paid, win bowls get paid, win championships get paid, play for a NATY get paid, etc. In short if they are a good coach, they can make big $$$, if they suck, they do not. Some contracts will pay a bonus for each week the team is rated in the top 25. I'm all for paying a HC big bucks when they deliver big buck quality results, for piss poor results not so much.

I personally don’t see this happening, dude is a hacker! I’ll go further and say I don’t think he’ll ever coach in the SEC again!!!

It is what it is really. The hires are typically the issues. You get those right and the buyouts dont matter. You make bad hires that you fire in less than 2 years and you re gonna pay for it. I'd bet Arky and FSU pay it twice.

FSU just agreed to pay Taggart more than UT paid Jones and Dooley combined.

South Carolina is in the same shape with Muschamp.

The Great Coach SABAN's original contract (although he has one now) did not have a buy out clause. Look it up if you doubt it. What can we learn from this? One, you can hire a Great Coach with a zero buy-out clause. Two, Alabama's AD was smarter than ours for hiring SABAN, and for doing so (originally) without a buy-out clause. three, our AD has not been able to learn anything from dooley, boy butch or from studying what Alabama did with SABAN. Remember, University of Tennessee is suppose to be a place of learning, our AD doesn't seem to be able to learn form their mistakes or from the success of others.

What really happened with Taggart? How do you fire a guy in year 2 before the season is even over?

If a few plays go differently, Tennessee finishes 10-2 or 11-1 in 2015. Wins the SEC East. If it wasn't for 2 inexplicable losses in 2016, we win the SEC East again. That's 20-4 (maybe better) over the 2015 and 2016 regular seasons, with the each season ending in a NY6 bowl. I guarantee you he receives a massive raise and extension after either the 2015 or 2016 season.

The 2017 season was going to be a step back no matter what given the talent we lost. It should have been better than 4-8, but perhaps a realistic projection is 6-6, 7-5 at best. Given what we know now about his coaching ability, I seriously doubt he recovers from that, and we probably have to end up taking on a higher buyout to fire him after the 2018 or 2019 season.

Butch put on his resume, over heard Sabin's coaching meeting every morning while bringing them coffee and turnovers. Learned a lot.
