Armando Gallaraga robbed of Perfect game

After watching the play from the reverse angle, I can see how the ump might have thought he bobbled the ball for a second but it was still a bad call.

I don't think the play should or will be reversed. The reason I say this is because if that play happens in the 3rd and he goes on to pitch a one hitter then no one is talking about it. The fact that it was the last play of the game should not affect the rules of what should or should not be overturned.

The ump is human and we all make mistakes. It's easy to call someone an idiot with slow-motion, multiple angle instant replay. It sucks and the wrong call was made but it happens.

That call last year in the playoffs when 2 Yankees were standing around 3rd and neither were touching the bag and only one of them was called out was by far a worse call.

I watched it live as it happened and knew he was safe, he got him by a step and a half, it wasn't even close.

I don't believe that there is any way that MLB will overturn the call...a 0% chance.

Everybody knows he threw a perfect game, the records will not say so but everybody knows and that is all that really matters.

For those calling the ump a hack, he has been doing it longer than some people on this board have been alive and is good ump, unfortunately for him this blunder will cast a shadow over his career.

Such is life I suppose.

Hate it for Gallaraga, and I hate it for Jim Joyce.

He's been well respected all throughout the game for a while.

That ump is a hack and has no business at the MLB level.
Granted, this was a horrible call and at the worst possible time. But to call Jim joyce a hack and that he has no business at the MLB level is a bit of a knee jerk imo. The guy has been doing it for 22 years and for the past two years was voted as the second best umpire in the league by the players. He made a mistake which is only human and he owned up to it and I am sure he is feeling like the worst person on earth this morning. This is just further proof that baseball needs to expand the instant replay further, because umpires are human and are destined to make mistakes, Joyce just happened to make his mistake at a historical moment. I also want to comment on how impressed I am at the Gallaraga as well as Leyland. I dont know how I could be as upbeat and as calm at Gallaraga was and his sportsmanship after the fact, impressive.

I respect Gallaraga supremely now, even more so than if he had gotten that perfecto.

Seems like a great guy and I wish him nothing but the best.

I actually like the umpire, too. The call sucked, but the way he handled the situation was great. I want this overturned really, really badly.

I heard on Sportscenter last night that Gallaraga hadn't been in the regular rotation because he had "attitude" problems.

I certainly didn't see any problems.

They both handled it almost too well. Anyone else smell a setup to lobby for IR?

I agree completely.

What's sad is Joyce will forever be linked to it.

I'm not a big fan of instant replay especially in baseball. The human element is part of what makes it so great.

Gallaraga didn't get his perfecto, which sucks, but chances are great he will have much more notoriety from this missed call than a perfect game ever would have gotten him.

Apparently they're going to review it. In that case, I think he'll get his perfect game.

Bingo! He is now infamous and his popularity is 10 times greater than it would have been.

What an incredible moment just now, with Jim Joyce coming out to get lineup cards and getting at least some cheers and the lineup card from Armando Galarraga. Don't know if you saw it, but a lot of emotion in Joyce's face; nice gesture by Leyland and the Tigers

I think Gallaraga would rather have the perfect game instead of popularity. Once in a lifetime opportunity.

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said he will not change the umpire's call, it will not a perfect game, live with it.
