Army Soldier refuses to salute flag

also, can we get a link to this Google answer? I've never heard of, nor seen this Rolex thing even back when.

It's a forum.

But I traced similar answers all over the place.

The "Green Berets and Rolex "

I skimmed pages 1 and 3 and noticed that it was a status thing by SF guys, not a given by the military thing. Also, SF and Rangers are completely different so I'm not sure you actually found your answer?

I'm not trying to be that guy, I'm just legitimately confused.

Seals were equipped with them. Rangers got them too. Along with marines.

It seems to be more in the earlier years as a form of practice. Later years became a status. The quartz in the Rolex proved to be dependable and was picked up back in the day for 400 bucks. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me

I didn't see anywhere where it said they were given them, just that they wore them. I wear all kinds of stuff the Army doesn't give me. Basically, I'm still confused.

Most of the Army SF Group and Ranger Batt guys I know use Suunto Vectors or Casio G-Shocks. The guys in the regular Infantry or Cav units wear just about everthing, from Timex, Casio, Marathon, Seiko, Citizen, Suunto, up to Omega and Rolex. On my last tour to Iraq a few guys wore Rolex and Omega
watches, I wore a Citizen Aqualand, some had Suuntos, and one kid had a Tudor Chrono his dad gave him. But most of the guys wore G-shocks, which are quite affordable at the post PX.

Navy SEALs/Army Rangers wear what type watch ? ? ? - The Military Watch Resource - Community Fora

By in the old days, Rolex was a real tool watch. Quartz was not freely available. It was not a status thing.

Now, it is not. Real tool watches uses quartz because it is much more accurate. Rolex is now just a status thing.

And

Re: The "Green Berets and Rolex "
For a long time the SEALS were issued Rolex's with their kits.
Definitely used them in Vietnam.

so SEALS were issued Rolex's. How does this apply to a couple of Rangers?

And I believe the US Army Ranger Battalion (2/75 RGR) there SCUBA teams were issued with the Rolex Tudor Dive watches and worked well in some very tough conditions.

This thread really took a left turn, eh?

The Rolex watch is just a "cool guy" thing. My buddy bought one last month, not issued. SF gets a Yarborough Knife after graduation. The only thing you get after Ranger School is a kick in the bawls. SF and Rangers are two totally separate organizations.

Highly unlikely they were issued. Our SCUBA teams buy their own. We get issued some cool guy stuff, but watches aren't one of them.

This is from old school guys. The threads I found were from retired boys. Vietnam era. The guys I know are older gentleman.

They may have bought them. They may have got them with their group. I dont know.

But I wasn't about nor do I intend to tell a former military special ops he is a liar.

I am glad you have chimed in though.

That's a pretty nice looking pig sticker.

Is it more of a ceremonial thing or an actual use item?

And just for giggles. I know the guy who invented the first drone. He is retired from the Air Force and is a sebastion county deputy sheriff now. He works to keep himself busy. Super nice guy. He retired as a lt. colonel if memory serves me right.

I use to maintain his property.

Both....they have a serial number. People try and duplicate it and claim it's authentic, for obvious reasons. The serial number is one of a kind and can be traced to see who it was giving to. Just to add a little more clarification.

The only thing that I know is it isn't done anymore. Vietnam was many moons ago.

Some stuff? Haha. I've seen those goodies and I'm insanely jealous. That said, for what you do, you deserve way more than I do. I can still be jealous though.

The emphasis on cardio was one of my issues with the AF. I could do 100 push-ups in a minute, max my sit ups, had a 32 or 33 inch waist, but I absolutely hate cardio.

It also sets a strange presidente when you are encouraging military members to look like marathon runners. Apparently "cancer patient" is the new military look.
You had unusual heads of South American countries in your units?

glad to see you weigh in
Should have mentioned the Yarbrough, Chris Reeves, knife along with the .45's..

What's your opinion of a Reeve's vs a Randal for a knife

They're both really good quality. I prefer the Reeve's over the Randall, though. Simply because I prefer the style vs the Randall. Both high quality knives.

I carried 3 knives, in the field..An old school KA-Bar on the LBE, a Spyderco sereated folder, and a gerber pocket knife

Always wanted a Randal 14 as a collector

Funny how guys stick with what they know

All the jumpmasters I know have a pretty sweet blade. Dunno that I'll ever be in an airborne unit again though if my plans work out
