Army Soldier refuses to salute flag

Just seems like your average attention-seeking moron. Calisthenics and running until she pukes would be sufficient, if I were her CO.

Sad. I hate the direction the world is headed. Too many people refuse to love self-sustaining lifestyles. Too many people have no idea what loyalty, respect and honor is. This is an example of that.

Take food stamps away and make these people grow gardens. Take the stupid Obama phones away, and make these people use payphones. Stop giving handouts, and show these people a way to survive.

C a r e f u l....do you have idea how many people on this site are on one or more forms of social welfare...

Tie her to a pallet draped in the flag and airdrop her a$$ over the ocean.

If she's otherwise fulfilling all her duties I see no need to make a big brouhaha over this.

Who wants her Commander and First Sergeant's number?? I can get it for you quite easily. It's only all over Facebook.

There's also another pic of her(in her car again) saying that tax dollars are being wasted.

so much dumb and over dramatic clownery in this thread.

This is a young private who did something everyone at Fort Bragg does, the only difference was she was dumb enough to post about it on social media.

Since you are unaware of military protocols, customs and courtesies, I'll extend you this minor lesson.

It is a requirement to stop, face the flag or the music if there is no flag in view and salute during the retreat ceremony and through the national anthem.

So no, she is not "fulfilling her duties" in even the most basic way and furthermore is obviously proud of the fact she is disrespecting the heritage and discipline of military members both past and present.

There's my problem with this. She basically was bragging over the fact she avoided a ceremony honoring the respect to her nation and the past service members that died to give her that opportunity.

So yeah, it's a big deal when someone that serves their nation starts going out in public and showing their disrespect like that.

Oh my goodness. The flag is a symbol. She salutes it enough. All you do by making her do it every day is make it part of her motions, something she has to do that prevents her from getting other stuff done. As someone who salutes it every morning, but is usually still in the office without being able to hear Retreat to know it's going off, each time I salute the flag, I don't remember the fallen, I just know it's about time to go for a run. It doesn't mean I've forgotten those who sacrificed everything and those who have fought before and are fighting with me now. Such grand expectations out of a gesture that is rendered meaningless by those who do it daily. This would have happened hundreds of times over the years had social media not been a generally new thing.

For those that have served, are you really going to tell me you never ducked into a building or a car to avoid Reveille or Retreat when given the opportunity? Seriously?

The answer is no. Never in 20 years did I ever do such a thing and even went as far as administrative actions against my troops that did.

And that's something I'm right proud of.

I feel very sorry for you and your sorry attitude concerning the basic customs and courtesies of the military.

I don't believe you. Not for one second. That or you were just crawling with oodles of free time on your hands. The latter could very well be the case. I feel sorry for you for holding yourself to such a standard anyone with a brain knows you never lived up to.

Here's the joy of the modern world...

I don't care if you believe me or not. But I know it's something I never did. And for such acts of disrespect, I found the time to take care of it.

I really hope you aren't still serving. Because you obviously set a poor example for those that still do.

I think the problem with it is how she is posting it on social media, has a IDGAF attitude about it, and is very disrespectful.......publicly. You know as well as I do, the Army cares a great deal about public appearance. I just think shes a dumb ***** and she will probably suffer some form of NJP for it. Just my opinion

In my 12 years, I never hid from colors. If I knew if was going to happen in the next ten minutes, did I make sure I was inside? Yes. If it happened while I was outside and heard it, did I run and duck in somewhere? No, not ever.
