Army Soldier refuses to salute flag

I think the problem with it is how she is posting it on social media, has a IDGAF attitude about it, and is very disrespectful.......publicly. You know as well as I do, the Army cares a great deal about public appearance. I just think shes a dumb ***** and she will probably suffer some form of NJP for it. Just my opinion

No doubt she's an idiot for posting about it. But this is a look at me shamming out of doing something. So many are saying this is some sort of anti American, I hate this country type thing. That is way over dramatic and over the top. I find it hilarious that so many former Soldiers expect us to believe they never did such a thing. She will obviously, and justly, face punishment for it, but it's not going to be a stoning or some sort of dishonorable discharge. The likely event is a summarized Article 15, but to this whole thing going viral, she might actually get a Company Grade.

Here's the joy of the modern world...

I don't care if you believe me or not. But I know it's something I never did. And for such acts of disrespect, I found the time to take care of it.

I really hope you aren't still serving. Because you obviously set a poor example for those that still do.

well too bad. The Army has me for 15 more years. I'll turn my ribbons and awards into you as I continue to receive them. I'm obviously a horrible Soldier for telling you everyone does this. I've seen LTCs, CSMs, 1SGs, Commanders, Majors, Captains, SFCs all do this. Guess it's going to be easy to get down to Obama and Hagel's low military numbers. Clearly the only ones that deserve to serve are those that rush outside to be there for Retreat.

I mean this with all due respect, but I dont care what you find hilarious, I never did that **** when I was in the military and I only saw it a handful of times. Granted it was normally second tour guys who didnt gaf anymore, but it was very rare to see it.

No, it's not an I hate America thing. But it is a breach of core discipline for the basic customs and courtesies that one is required to adhere to when they put on that uniform. If if one can't even be disciplined enough to perform such basic duties as a military member, how could I ever trust them to do their job under fire?

And the fact that you are attempting to defend such a failure to adhere to standards just baffles the daylights out of me.

you even admitted you made it inside if you had time to spare. That's no different than what she did. With all due respect of course.

My opinion as well.............it seems as though it really is a different Navy/Army/AF/USMC

I mean this with the utmost respect for someone still serving their country...

But I really hope you get hit with that rollback since you obviously are not the type to hold yourself to any sort of standards nor would you hold your soldiers to them. Perhaps you should start looking elsewhere for a job that doesn't require you to hold yourself or others to basic standards.

That's not what I said and that's not what she did here. She ducked when Colors started and found it to be an achievement that she dodged it.

I retired at just the right time I guess. I expect things like this to happen, but I didn't expect the generation that took the reins from me to be supportive of soldiers that flaunt the rules and regulations.

Never once did I defend her actions, I just pointed out this is common and happens all over the military. It's laughable that you all think this is a crime punishable by death.

With all due respect.

I hope the bold isnt with sarcasm, because I think there's a tad in there.

I dont think its something she could or should be CM'd for, but definitely something she will get an Article 15 and rightfully so IMO

Yeah, there's a "tad" of sarcasm there. Anyone that thinks I don't belong in the Armed Forces because I don't find a dumb private avoiding Retreat being a punishable by dishonorable discharge or worse, death offense needs a heavy dose of reality. Their actual military career has been exaggerated in their mind by a heavy dose of Toby Keith, Daryl Worley and any other country artist you want to insert here songs about the military since 9/11.

You have no idea what I've seen or done, so don't even think your attempts at a slight are unnoticed.

And if you try to justify this overt case of avoiding the rules and regulations of this soldier by saying "well everyone else does it" then no, you do not deserve to be in a leadership position that you would have to enforce those rules and regulations and furthermore, are not fit to wear the uniform of your nation since you believe overt disrespect is okay because "everyone does it."

I can remember if you were driving on base and Retreat(music) started. You had to stop the vehicle, get out and salute facing the music or flag. Not sure why they stopped it but was probably due to safety concerns.

We still do it in the Army. Hell, Ft. Stewart has MPs block major intersections so people have to stop.

Got it. You can't read. Because obviously you haven't read what I've posted. Sorry for the confusion.

I was at Ft. Benning a few years ago and was surprised to see them still doing it. I guess it was an AF thing.

The picture in her car and the funeral picture piss me off worse than the flag one.

The pictures aren't even the worst part. It's the way she acts in her comments about them. I can tell just by reading her attitude that she would be the type of person I'd wanna bit** slap in person.

Your tax dollars allow me to do this all day? If you got off your lazy ass and quit ducking out they wouldn't. Ignorant prick...

And throwing deuces or whatever they call it and bunny ears by a casket of someone who died volunteering for us? I'm not sure what to say about it except I hate knowing idiots are out there and even worse than this are out there. It's a strange world.
