Around the SEC

Florida and Vandy both have the worst fans in the sec. Most Florida could care less about baseball and there aren't they many "real" florida fans anyway

Will respectfully disagree regarding Florida fans. They have s good core of baseball fans.

So you are critical of Florida fans as not beings "real" fans and call Vandy fans as being the worst. No fanbase has been more loyal than Vandy. How many other fanbases has dealt with the type losing and heartbreaking loses and seasons as I have.? Even when Dooley was coach at UT had decent seasons where you still won 5 games every year. Think about going 2-10 ever year. You have never known what losing is compared to Vandy. The only consistent success is in baseball in the Tim Corbin Era the rest is hot garbage at best.

One of my coworkers has season tickets and says the crowds are an absolute joke.

Kinda like Rays crowds in Tropicana field when the Rays has Maddon.

Historically they have been. I went to the Supers there in 2010 vs Miami and walked right up and bought tickets at first pitch. I'm sure at your big baseball schools, they're sold out hours after the field is announced. The 6400 number is hard to believe and I'm sure that's purchased tickets and not actual attendance. However, I imagine attendance has increased over the last several years because what they've accomplished can't be ignored.

Decent seasons and 5 wins?

What?

Vandys fanbase is minuscule. Their baseball fans are bandwagon mostly fans of other schools in the other sports.
That's is the definition of a poor fanbase

How big is that core is the key?

No where close to the "real" fan bases of the SEC IMO

There basketball fans are extremely fragile and same with football.

Just isn't a loyal thru thick and thin kind of bunch IMO

Wife has season tickets for vandie bb. I go occasionally, but both of us are Vols! Vandie fans don't show for home games though season tickets mostly "sellouts". At SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT, they only show up for their games & are the most antisocial, whiney fans of all. Tim Corbin is a great coach & person, but vandie fans are miserable.

Crossville is right. He and that other Vandy fan are to be commended for staying loyal to the Dores. :)

I still remember going to the Big East/SEC Challenge when Vandy played the first game and Tennessee played the second, and the Vandy game had more Tennessee fans show up to watch the game than actual Vandy fans. And that's in their own hometown.

I'll commend any fan that stays loyal through rough times; but the truth is Vandy has a very, very small core group of fans, and it was made clear during the Franklin years. The best 3 year stretch ever and they were lucky to get 30K a game.

Every private school in the NCAA has the same issues that Vanderbilt has, even Stanford has a hard time drawing fans during lean years. It's a numbers game folks. How many UT fans are there in the state but never went to the University of Tennessee?

As far as baseball is concerned, Vanderbilt fans have packed Hawkins field since the day that it was built. They out draw every single private school in America in baseball, and it's not even close. The difference between Vandy in baseball and everyone else is the actual attendance is roughly equal to the paid attendance!

You can go to midweek games at Vandy and have people in the stands including the outfield.

Vanderbilt could win 10 national titles in a row and still not have the fan base of LSU, South Carolina, or the Mississippi schools. It has nothing to do with loyalty or being a bandwagon fan, it's simply numbers.

Per KR

Texas candidates: O'sullivan, McDonnell, Corbin, Schlosnagle, o'connor

He seems confident it will be O'sullivan

Bama: pierce, Calvi, whitting, Jewett, Godwin

Would be surprised if Jewitt wanted the job, given that he knows first hand how difficult it will be to compete. Also think it will be hard for Bama and UK to fill their jobs while Sully's situation is in limbo.

Jewett also mentioned at Purdue

If he wants a head job he has to jump soon

Will be very interesting to see how much Foley fights to keep Sully if it comes to that. This is unchartered territory since the previous three baseball coaches under Foley were forced out(and all had CWS appearances). With Jim Morris out at Miami in two more years and a change coming to FSU in the not too distant future, UF is poised to control the state for a while.

Wow just wow

@howielindsey: New 10-year deal for Dan McDonnell and @UofLBaseball. Over $1 million per year.

Also KR seems all but certain O'sullivan is a done deal
@KendallRogersD1: As I’ve said all along, I think Texas has its guy …and it wasn’t McDonnell. Still, VERY smart move by Tom Jurich. https://t.co/Get4kFqAaA

Incredible! What's next. 250k pitching coaches. I can remember in the mid 90's when Jim Morris left Tech for Miami and they made him an offer he couldn't refuse, 100k.

All I can say is good for Mac. The guy is a grinder and he had no gravy train to get where he is today. He did by working very hard.

As far as Sully. Yes, KR seems sold he is UT's man. Someone in Sully's camp has leaked that if that is the case. I'm not sure it would be a great fit but we will see.

After seeing your initial post, I was gonna say Jurich will push the $1m envelope for McDonnell. He proved me right. Jurich is one hell of an AD and isn't afraid to spend money if he thinks there's a ROI.

Yesterday Jurich was quoted as saying MacDonnell was a legend in that town. No way he was letting him go easy.

I think Travis may go somewhere this offseason. Kentucky makes a little more sense, but given his history out west I think a lot of people believe that's where he will land.

The Vandy baseball coaching staff is very well compensated. Travis and Scott Brown make more than a lot of d1 head coaches. I doubt a Purdue could afford him.

That comes as a surprise to many involved. I was fully for a move, but OK with Hoover. Ballpark needs work.

Brandon Marcello @bmarcello
I'm told the SEC baseball tournament is staying in Hoover. We'll hear officially when Greg Sankey speaks in 20 minutes. @seccountry

I think its a good move, something really neat about Hoover! Hoover doesn't have all the strip bars and other junk, but at my age I just want to go see some quality baseball. :)
