Around the SEC

I have one crazy idea for the format of the tourney. I think teams might go for it as it would prepare them for a regionAl better.

Regular season champion gets a buy all the way into a single elimination semifinal game.

The other 12 teams qualify for 3 4team
Pools of pool play. The 3 winners of the pool play advance to Saturday where the 4 teams play do or die with the regular season champions playing the lowest seeded winner.

It limits games and also means every team gets at least 3 games to improve the regional Value.

The draw back is the reg season champignons only play 1 game if they lose.

Also some pool play games will be worthless other the. Rpi builders

Just a crazy idea that's means no team would play more than 5 games

Have no idea who the hell is throwing for Florida tomorrow.

Attempting to win the tournament without Shore pitching and Puk losing his start.

Congrats 99, going to the SEC Championship game, not a big deal for you maybe, but the players seem happy about it and it sure looked like the LSU team wanted it badly.

The players care. It's just not managed like it's life or death.

Why not Puk? Still sick? Saving his arm for playoffs or what?

Exactly why I posted yesterday I wasn't going to watch. There is nothing to play for for florida. Save the arm and keep him on a schedule for what is important

Advancing toward Omaha

Pitched on Wednesday. I just think they would rather not throw him again and let his next start be in the regional.

This is the kind of thing I was talking about earlier.

If this were the CWS, Puk would go. Logan Shore would magically not be ill and be well enough to go.

I think you see about 6 guys pitch 9 innings, going an inning or two each.

An even better idea: two four team regionals, played concurrently at Sounds Stadium and Vanderbilt. Winners face off in a best of three in downtown Nashville.

When do the regionals start? Is it this coming Thursday or Friday? I would think they would throw Puk if he had enough days off to rest.

But, they really aren't playing for anything but an SEC championship. They already have locked in a top 8 seed nationally so it might not really matter to them. Then again, winning any kind of championship is hard to just overlook/disregard.

I like that but that's only 8 teams involved and 6 games played

2 sites for 16 teams with 4 pools would be perfect

I want less teams and less games. Look at how many aces didn't throw a pitch this past week. The 12 team concept is just too many games, and especially when seven of the 12 teams go into the week as almost certain 1 seeds. I know that won't be the way it always is, but there are just too many games. It is foolish to have teams guaranteed to host a regional having to play every single day for six days to win the darned thing.

Your idea makes 2 teams play 6 games

Puk threw 110+ pitches on Wednesday night. Not a chance he is coming back on 3 days rest. Tomorrow will have to be Johnny Wholestaff. Think they will throw Horvath, Rubio, Byrne, Snead, etc. I doubt they will throw Kowar. Not sure he is ready yet.

I guess you could do a winner take all title game. At that point, who wants to play yet another three game sec series?

I would agree with that for sure

Let's just add FSU and Texas to the sec and have a 16 team league and have 4 pools

The only thing I can think of it to extend the tournament to last more days.

So, instead of Tuesday to Sunday. Maybe, you make the tournament a 9 or 10 day tourney instead of a 6 day tourney.

Don't know if anyone would go for that. With more days, you can come up with more formulas.

Yeah, Kowar is not ready yet. So, that's out.

Johnny Wholestaff.

I'm all for eight. Do it like omaha. Teams nine through whatever are nothing more than a reason to throw your midweek guys. Game are less than meaningless. Sec won't do it because they feel it makes it less likely the league would get nine invites...go figure.

You ever been to the tournament? Your point is meaningless, not the games! Worst games were on Friday.

Word around Hoover this evening was Shore was feeling a little better. My UF friends I was with seemed to think he may go. I'm not sure if the #1 overall seed is worth it but UF is playing for that now. With UofL and UM going down in the ACCT, UF stands a good chance to hop up and take it. I think the winner of tomorrow's game ends up as the overall #1.

Hes thrown 2 innings in two weeks because of the rain out vs LSU.

So, it makes some sense to get him some work

Gators win over LSU 1-0 in a classic! Both teams' starters were magnificent! After some sloppy baseball this week ( 52 errors a tournament record), THIS is the way the game should be played.:good!:

I cannot even recount how many sec tournament games I have been at...and shot professionally. Just FYI.

Sec coaches spend their entire regular season fleshing out their pitching lineup, and then for one week they have to completely undo it only to go back to it a few days later. It makes zero sense the way it is now, and the coaches would all tell you they don't like it and all will have better ideas to change it.

SEC Tournament: Chamionship
Final:
#4 Florida- 5
#3 Texas A&M- 12
