Arrow

I'm not familiar with the Green Arrow storyline. Didn't read it.

I'm struggling to get my head around....train with a boxer a couple of episodes so I'm qualified to be a pole wielding vigilante. And everyone is ok with that.

That's not part of her origin in the comics. In the comics, Ted Grant was but one of many teachers she had. She travelled the world learning other fighting techniques. Like I said in a previous post, in the comics, she could beat Ollie's ass. Hell, she could probably do it blindfolded, with one arm tied behind her back. They need to really flesh out her story and put her on an arc where she is receiving more training, and not just from Ollie.

In the comics, Laurel is the second Canary, but the first wasn't her sister, it was her mom. Her mom was a member of the Justice Society of America, a precursor to the Justice League of America in the DCU history(at least the history when I read, comics change history all the time). The first Canary's teammate was Ted Grant, AKA Wildcat, a former heavyweight champion. So Laurel first learned to fight from him as he was like an uncle. But at some point she travelled to the Far East to continue her training, and learned far more than boxing. If I were going to compare her to a Marvel character, it would probably be Black Widow, but I'd give the fighting edge to Canary, but not by much.

I have seen this being discussed on several message boards if you know your Canary origins. Everyone was waiting for Laurel to become the Black Canary.

These stories (Episodes) whiled combined from several different sources are all staying pretty close with original comic story-lines regarding the characters just from different era's.

They've deviated from the comics on several points. In the comics the lazarus pit was used but CW refuses to use the pit... for now.

In all honesty, I thought there was a good chance they'd steer clear of the Lazarus Pits(plural, because more than one exists). The problem with bringing them into the storyline is you pretty much negate death. Part of what makes a hero a hero is his/her willingness to sacrifice their life. Having a magic pit that brings them back to life kind of goes against that principle. That said, was Ollie truly dead, or just almost dead? If he was dead, what did Katana do to bring him back to life? For all we know, a Lazarus Pit could have been involved, only in an unconventional way. What if liquid from a Lazarus Pit was used to bring him back to life? There's more to that story then what we've seen so far, and I would guess the writers will address it in a future storyline.

Put that aside and there are rules to using a Lazarus Pit. For one, Ras is very controlling of them. For the longest time in comics, he seemed to be the only one to know their locations. Also, use of a Lazarus Pit normally results in the person being resurrected returning mentally unstable. So you would have to wonder what, if any, rules apply to a Lazarus Pit if it were introduced on the show. Also, if a Lazarus Pit was at hand, why wouldn't Nyssa have used it on Sara? Unless major decomp had set in, it should have been able to restore her to life.

There are many things about the Ras storyline that could be speculated, but basically we're going to have to wait and and see how the writers address it. That story is far from over imo, and when Ras pops up again, we might start getting answers. We do know Ras has led a long life, despite not looking so old, but is it because of the Lazarus Pits, or is he an immortal along the lines of Vandal Savage? The show gets many of its ideas and premises from the comics, but it also creates its own mythos, so it's hard to say which way they'll go.

What made it so obvious is the name. In the comics, Black Canary is Dinah Laurel Lance. No Sara in the name. In fact, I don't really remember a sister being mentioned in the comics. Maybe she had one, but I never recall reading about her. She took up the mantle of the Black Canary from her mother, despite her mom's disapproval. The original Black Canary didn't want her daughter to follow in her footsteps.

The Atom revealed!! I like it but to much Red!

Arrow: First Photo of Brandon Routh in The Atom Costume

By Eric Goldman
Ray Palmer's been tinkering on his suit for The Atom for awhile on Arrow now, but the time has come for him to actually don the costume of the DC superhero.

The CW and Warner Bros. have just debuted the first image of Ray (Brandon Routh) in the Atom costume, which you can see below.

For now, Ray's costume is a suit of armor - that, as far as we know, doesn't allow him to change sizes, like in the comics. Will that change? We'll see, as we do know Ray and Felicity Smoak will pay a visit to The Flash this season, where Ray gets some assistance on the suit - which likely means we'll see The Atom in costume teaming with The Flash, given the episode is called "All-Star Team-Up."

We'll see Ray Palmer first don his Atom costume in the 15th episode of Arrow: Season 3, airing February 25th on the CW

From a belt to a suit. He's supposed to be the Atom, not Iron Man.

I really want to love this show, but imo, the writers keep screwing it up. Ollie training with Malcolm? Malcolm isn't a match for Ras himself, so how would him training Ollie help? And my biggest problem is it's not in Ollie's character to work with Merlyn.

And how does Ollie go from staggering along in pain as he leaves Tatsu to being back in fighting form when he returns to Starling City?

They need to work on being more consistent with the storytelling. It's dropped off this season compared to previous seasons. Too many inconsistencies, imo.

Well Malcolm is better trained at sword fighting. Ollie & Malcolm have two things in common protecting the city and most importantly protecting Thea! The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend!

We never saw him fight! He shot a few arrows then made a speech and left.

I thought this was a fantastic episode. IMO

I disagree with it being a fantastic episode, and I'm not enjoying the current direction of the story. Love the show itself, but wish the writers would take a different twist. I can think of a few that I'd find more entertaining.

Here's what I would love to see. Have the truth about Sara's death come out, and have Thea learn about how Merlyn blackmailed Ollie into fighting Ras. An angry Thea takes off for NandaParbat in defiance of Merlyn. Once there, instead of killing her for "justice", Ras sees potential in her and brings her into the League of Assassins. She agrees on the condition that he not kill Ollie, to which he agrees. An angry Nyssa, unable to accept Sara's killer into the LoA, even though Thea was mind-controlled by Malcolm, leaves. Not knowing where to go, she flees to Starling City and Team Arrow. Now you have a real teacher for Black Canary in the form of Nyssa. Nyssa can teach her far more than boxing and turn her into a truly formidable fighter. Nyssa can also reach out to Sin, and bridge a gap that lets Laurel and Sin form a relationship. If you've read the comics, you know Sin is like Canary's adopted daughter, something they played off of with Sara, but they could continue with Laurel.

So, you wrap up the scenario of Ollie against Ras himself without Ollie having to win a fight he shouldn't be able to win, but you still leave Ras and the LoA in play as antagonists. You also give Canary a proper teacher. But wait, there's more. Ras isn't going to be happy about Nyssa leaving, so he'll send someone after her. Enter Lady Shiva. One possible story arc. Ollie isn't going to be content with Thea being part of the LoA and will try to get her back. What if Thea doesn't want to go? And Ras may have promised that he wouldn't kill Ollie, but he won't have promised that one of the LoA wouldn't kill Ollie. That's two possible story arcs. Also, since Arrow loves introducing new heroes, travelling to NandaParbat to see Thea could introduce a couple. My top choice would be Boston Brand, aka Deadman, but there are other heroes tied to the city. That's three possible story arcs. And finally, Nyssa is going to want to kill Merlyn for Sara's death. Merlyn isn't a character that should be killed, at least not yet, but they could have some epic fights. That's a fourth story arc.

I could come up with more, but those are just some possible ideas that would remain some what true to what the source material is based off of, which I would like to see. You have to allow for some bending because it's TV, I get that, but some of your biggest fans are comic fanboys that know the history and want to see at least a parallel. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it could be better than what they're currently doing. And no, I'm not going to say my ideas are better. Everything is about opinion, and some of you may think, "that idea sucks", which is fine. But my opinion is it would make for a better overall story by getting rid of some inconsistencies.(The biggest one being Laurel can take a few boxing lessons and then suddenly she's ready to be a vigilante.)

I also think with all that's happenned in the Glades, it would be a great place to introduce Anarky(originally a Batman villain, but so is Ras).

Some version of Prometheus in the future would make for a cool story as well, if done properly.

And not every hero introduced is going to provide a spin-off, but if you take some heroes introduced in Arrow and some heroes introduced in The Flash, you could potentially do a team spin-off. Maybe have them work as Waller's public team? Since they've decided to do a Suicide Squad movie, I doubt a TV show is in the future(despite DC keeping their TV and movie franchises separate), but you could do an Outsiders team that basically worked for Waller to some degree. You've already got Firestorm, the Atom, and Katana as potential members. (Tatsu may not like Waller, but depending on the incentive, she would work with her if needed.)

Sorry, just throwing a random idea out there with this post.

Wait, no mention of the arc with the Bare Chested Baby Oil Serial Hugger?

I had no idea you wanted to make a cameo in the show.

That would be a pretty short arc. You'd run up, already bare chested and oiled up, give Diggle a squeeze, then he'd shoot you in the head. Team Arrow would consider it justified.

You know that character is all you! :)

I'd run up and hug Thea, Felicity, or Laurel.

Personally, I say keep Diggle as he is. If DC really wants to introduce a black superhero to TV, go with Black Lightning. Or maybe Cyborg. Stay away from the Green Lanterns though. Better to keep things earthbound atm than introduce intergalactic cops.

Yeah, I'm not getting this. Wouldn't they have to kill John Diggle off of Arrow?

My impression was "Diggle" would turn out to be an alias and his real last name would be revealed as Stewart.

Cyborg is rumored to cameo in Batman V. Superman and then be a part of the upcoming Justice League films.

So far, tonight's episode has been really good. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop though when Thea learns she killed Sara.

What would really be awesome though is if Thea was playing Ollie as part of a plan with her father. I still think it would be cool for her to become a villain.

I'm not sure they ever plan on telling her. If they did it'd for sure cut ties between her and Merlin for good.

She has no motivation to take down The Arrow especially now she knows it's her brother.
