Art Briles reportedly fired

I typed that while saying it to myself like Pappy O'Daniel. Glad I'm not the only one who thought that way.

Or well, lying to investigators twice was more the problem than actually having the BBQ.

Yeah, they also frown on coaches calling prospects and telling them to lie to the NCAA. Saddest part is, had he told the truth from the start, he would at max got a slap on the hand.

Does anyone have any insight as to why Briles is "suspended pending termination"? Why would that be necessary?

My only guess is that it's some kind of administrative hoop where they still have to forward relevant paperwork or something to proper offices so the right boxes can be checked before they completely sever contractual ties. But in the meantime, they want to stop the bleeding, hence the suspension.

Then again, it's possible that's not it at all, but college bureaucracies are known for nothing if not for making you jump through hoops on the administrative side.

If you want some comic relief, go to the article on ESPN on the decommitments and read the comments. I especially like the Big12 conspiracy where the Other schools are trying to keep Baylor down. Lots of support for Briles, which is shocking

I would assume it's some procedural move that's part of firing him with cause. Just to make sure everything is in line and nothing pops up later.

If it's not...then...yikes.

I guess he was tutored by ole Phil on how to be a mafia boss over a team of outlaws. Does this catapult Briles into first place in the Fulmer Cup race?

No, I did not. I just went against the usual approach most call justice today.

I would rather see this criminal behavior punished rather than see the guilty go untried. He might not make the same mistake again, but it doesn't deter the next guy.

If only OJ had been paralyzed in a wreck on the way to Nicole's. Things might be a whole lot less......what it is now.

Going against the usual approach in your case was not even reading the report? At least from previous posts you made I have to assume you did not.

And if losing a multi million dollar job doesn't help to deter the next guy, then the next guy has to be a blithering idiot.

I'm with you on the state of the judicial system and how much public opinion seems to play a part, but if you even read half the report I don't see how you could possibly still feel bad for poor Art Briles.
