Art Briles reportedly fired

So Baylor fans are Ok with 1) promoting from within and 2) considering former briles assistants for the job. Lol that's a great idea. Let's promote the guy that said they'd have the Sam U kid back that fall when he's weeks away from being convicted. And while we're at it, let's grab former briles assistants to run the program... Guys that learned from briles... Learned how to coach from briles... Learned how to run a program from briles... Babers and Montgomery are guilty by association at the very least. They very well may be innocent but you can't look at them if you're Baylor.

They can definitely bring in Babers..... The guy that did the crime is the one that should be punished period.

I just read kiffin is a candidate to replace him. Lane Kiffin listed as Baylor candidate

Notingnin that article indicated that by had kiff under mconsideration. Surely they would not bring that stink in to follow briles...

That read to me like a media pundit with a kiffin crush, who is using the platform to ty to talk the world into thinking kiffin deserves another shot.

The ph report didn't specify which staff member was responsible and it dates back to babers time there. You cannot, as a school that is going through very serious issues, hire a guy that may or may not have been part of the problem. Briles is gone because it's HIS program. That doesn't mean all guilty parties have been/will be punished

The PH report must have cleared the assistants...current staff to remain intact:

Dennis Dodd ‏@dennisdoddcbs

Confirming Jim Grobe at Baylor. Solid choice. On ethics comm at AFCA. Plan is to keep rest of staff per Grant Teaff.

Grobe to be a one season deal. AFCA headquarters are in Waco...maybe he'll take on a greater role there:

BaylorScout Tim ‎@TimWatkins04

Grobe as a steady hand, face at press conference and fixer for a year is a good get to me. He is not, nor wants to be, long term option

Players report to campus tomorrow as scheduled:

Grobe for interim is just about the best case scenario. Program will be squeaky clean under his watch. Recruiting will be tough, though.

Arkansas did that a few years back. John L Smith, I believe. Congrats

Yes, for the 2012 season...although there was a slight bit of a difference. John L Smith was brought in as an interim for that year who was / had been on that staff (actually, it might be fair to just say "was" because he was on Petrino's staff until the end of the 2011 season, was hired to be the HC of Weber State for the 2012 season, before leaving that spring to be Arkansas's interim). They then of course hired Bielema that winter.

Similarly, after Tressel resigned in May of 2011, Ohio State named the co-DC/LB coach Luke Fickell as an interim for the 2011 season. They then hired Urban Meyer once that season ended. (Others have done it, too, even without a scandal: an example that comes to quickly mind is when Bobby Johnson decided to retire in July, 2010, Vanderbilt made OL coach Robbie Caldwell the interim for that season; the offseason after they hired James Franklin...I'd need to do a bit of research for some other ones.)

Usually the programs go for using someone already in the program to keep some sense of continuity while holding it over...so this differs in an interesting way. Grobe doesn't necessarily bring any continuity here - he doesn't really have any ties to the program, the previous staff's playing style, etc. - he also hasn't coached a football team in 3 years. (At the same time, though, I understand that this was such a disastrous ordeal that the move toward a stable coach from outside the program might help from the p.r. standpoint.)

But regardless of the case with Grobe...in situations that happen so close to the start of the season like this one, going with naming an interim for a year to allow for an actual / full coaching search generally turns out to be a better route long term...even if it might mean the program has to eat the upcoming season.

So they hired a coach for 1 year? That's spells trouble on the recruiting trail for them. Back to the cellar bottom.

The assistants that were retained will run the team. Bury Switzer was brought back from the grave and won a Super Bowl with the 'boys...right??? Thank God Grobe has more class that Switzer.

Dino Babers will be hired to replace Grobe and recruiting won't take too much of a hit. Don't forget that Texas and Western Louisiana A&M will most likely be bringing in new coaches also...the Tom Herman Sweepstakes.

Crazy good recruiting within a 100 mile radius of the Baylor campus.

dont act like this isn't a huge hit to your team. This will set you back many, many years.

Yep recruiting is going to break them. You better believe A&M, TTech, OU, LSU, UT-TX, TCU, and everyone else will tear Baylor apart in recruiting. Parents are not going to want their child going to a football program that is currently in the middle of a purge. Baylor will be fine for the next 1-2 years with the talent it has amassed under Briles. Once the talent leaves though... better hope Babers or Morris can croot!! :) Or will it be Strong??? :)

The only coach at a school on that list that is safe would be Patterson at TCU and if he were to lose one or both of his OCs things could change.

A&M- Sumlin is on a very hot seat.
LSU- Miles was a heartbeat away from being fired last season...morons
OU-Oklahoma's Supreme Court has ruled that the Joe Mixon tape must be released to the media under the FOI act. Stoops will have his own problems as to why Mixon is still on the team.
Texas-Strong's fate may be sealed by mid-season:

Sep. 4 Fighting Irish Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Darrell K Royal - TX Mem. Stadium, Austin, TX 6:30pm CT

Sep. 10 Miners UTEP Miners
Darrell K Royal - TX Mem. Stadium, Austin, TX

Sep. 17 Golden Bears at California Golden Bears
California Memorial Stadium, Berkeley, CA

Sep. 24 --- OFF --- ---

Oct. 1 Cowboys at Oklahoma State Cowboys
Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK

Oct. 8 Sooners Oklahoma Sooners
Cotton Bowl Stadium, Dallas, TX

Oct. 15 Cyclones Iowa State Cyclones
Darrell K Royal - TX Mem. Stadium, Austin, TX

Oct. 22 Wildcats at Kansas State Wildcats
Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan, KS

Oct. 29 Bears Baylor Bears
Darrell K Royal - TX Mem. Stadium, Austin, TX
Tech-Coach Bro will have to start winning big soon...Tech boosters are tired of losing.

Even if there are four teams in Texas (Texas, Tech, TAM, Baylor) doing coaching searches next year, which of those programs do you think gets filled first? Which ones have a history behind them, or at least a heritage, that would entice a coach to go there? And which ones aren't a dumpster fire at the moment?

Here's a hint, Baylor is hitting the bottom with Tech. And honestly, I'd rate Tech above Baylor right now since there isn't a stigma assigned with that particular program.

Stoops isn't going anywhere, regardless of the Mixon tape. LSU has a fighting chance this year and I think Miles is more secure than you give him credit for.

Baylor football is headed back to where they were Pre-Briles. They may make a bowl game this year, just because of the easy schedule, but they will be bringing the tarp out of retirement soon. All those teams that Briles ran the score up on will have no mercy on them, especially in McLane Stadium. The Baylor bandwagon will quickly fade into oblivion and be something for the few bear fans to tell their grandkids about.
