Article: Looks Like Down Year for Recruiting

It's been a week or two since we've had one of these

Do we just ignore all articles and information out there? It is a Tennessee site and I am a Tennessee fan. I am also the kind of guy who like information and facts, and that is why I posted it--not just hollow posts with no substance.

The article also discussed the possibility of North going pro. Anyone who would even suggest that isn't writing something rooted in information and facts.

SMH.

Don't understand why people question recruiting. The reason why we may have a "down" year is because Butch Jones set the bar so high.

Nah. Nick brings a lot of substance to the board...or at least the cobra did.

While I agree that North probably won't go pro, I would not pick that one thing out to say everything else is wrong. There are too many other factors that indicate this won't be a good year recruiting. Again, I hope Butch proves the article wrong.

Recruiting is a fluid situation and Butch is one of the best closers in the biz. Nearly two months left to NSD. Saying we are going to have a weak finish in recruiting is very premature.

I was born and raised in TN and come from a long line of Tennesseans. I was even accepted into the UT law school (still have my acceptance letter even though I went somewhere else and I got accepted to UF law school too but I did not go there either and I hate UF). I am looking forward to reading part ii and I hope it has better news. I do like reading the posts on here that say we are going to pull it out, etc. I now live in TX but I follow my Vols--just ask my GF how often I am on this site, etc.

There are so many things wrong with this 'article' that it hardly merits a response. "Peer recruitment"? Are you serious? Tenn should finish strong.

Actually, Butch said that peer recruitment was very important, and we did have some good peer recruiters in the last two classes. Just saying. LOL.

Just saying, the comments about Guarantano and speculation about his personality are asinine. LOL

I don't know him or anything about him so I would not know if it is true or not, but i would not fault him for not being able to sway others to come to UT. In other words, the fact that he couldn't convince those players to come to UT does not mean he does not necessarily have a great personality. I would not have written that if I were the author even if it were true.

Calling this class a bust is definitely premature, but there's no denying that peer recruiting by legacies has contributed to our success the past two years. Wharton, TJKr, Kmac, etc. recruited hard for UT in social media and at camps and the Under Armour game, creating a lot of buzz that made UT a cool choice. We haven't had that this year, so the coaches have to sell harder. But CBJ has shown he can finish strong, so we can still pull in a Top 10 class. Could go down to the wire this year, though.

Exactly. It was unprofessional...and I highly doubt he has met him either.

It's not really a secret that our recruiting class this year won't be as good as years past. So yes it's a down year. How far down is tbd.

I actually think this class might be our best in terms of stars per player average. Right now they're letting go of the lower ranked guys and all the guys we're chasing are consensus 5 stars or better.

If we close strong, there is a chance this class finishes higher on rivals and espn since they only count the 20 highest rated recruits.

I hope the article is wrong and Butch and company close strong, but the article seems to say that is not likely. I love how people on here just write stuff without reading. Don't dispute what I wrote. Read the article and dispute it. Like I wrote, it is very well written and has good facts and analysis.

Yes, the article shows why this year will be more difficult to pull recruits than the previous two. The main reason is not having an instate and/or legacy commit being the unofficial peer recruiter.

However, long before the days of social media, coaches have pulled in strong classes. And a smaller class means fewer needs to fill, and hopefully attrition will be less like a revolving door.

I just hope this class fills needs for next season with quality players and VFLs.
