Article: Looks Like Down Year for Recruiting

Won't read and disagree? LOL. OK. I guess some of us read and try to analyze what we read and others just "won't read and disagree".

I am just curious why you are so fervently defending the veracity of the article. I have not read it yet, and I might, still. But, it seems that anyone who disagrees with your assessment of the article or with you, gets laughed at. That is my perception, anyway.

I was born and raised in TN and come from a long line of Tennesseans. I was even accepted into the UT law school (still have my acceptance letter even though I went somewhere else and I got accepted to UF law school too but I did not go there either and I hate UF). I am looking forward to reading part ii and I hope it has better news. I do like reading the posts on here that say we are going to pull it out, etc. I now live in TX but I follow my Vols--just ask my GF how often I am on this site, etc.

You left yourself wide open with the "ask my girlfriend" comment, but, I will respectfully leave it alone.

It's not really a secret that our recruiting class this year won't be as good as years past. So yes it's a down year. How far down is tbd.

On paper? Yes. The next four years will dictate how good this class will be. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.

I read the article. I am not sure how factual it is. There is much speculation, just as there is from everyone else this year. It comes off as a "sky is falling" scenario, but I don't think anyone should be panicking, yet, especially considering how this staff has recruited the last 3 or so years. Also, the author is quick to point out that Coach Jones is very quick to kick someone to the curb. What he does not add is that every other Division 1 football coach has the same policy now. I would rate the article about a 4. It is well-written, but it is not supported well by very much evidence.

I think the article has some good points and facts. Is it perfect? No. But there is no way to comment on it intelligently if you don't read it. What you are writing is pure speculation since you did not read it.

LOL. Yes I sort of knew that when I wrote it, but this is not really about me. It's about the article and what folks think about it. The only reason I gave my background is to let people know I am not a troll and I am a UT fan--not a negavol either.

I hope the article is 100% wrong, but it makes some good points and that is the only reason I posted it. I never post anything on here, usually because someone else has already posted it.

Don't shoot the messenger. I am just providing the article for discussion.

How is it pure speculation when my comment was regarding your comments in the thread and not the veracity of the article written?

What I mean is that if you did not read it then your comments about it are pure speculation. I thought that would be obvious. Sorry if it was not. LOL.

SMH.

Don't understand why people question recruiting. The reason why we may have a "down" year is because Butch Jones set the bar so high.

Oh, so where is Saban setting the bar since they get a top 5 recruiting class EVERY year and don't have a "down" year in recruiting?

Yes, the article shows why this year will be more difficult to pull recruits than the previous two. The main reason is not having an instate and/or legacy commit being the unofficial peer recruiter.

However, long before the days of social media, coaches have pulled in strong classes. And a smaller class means fewer needs to fill, and hopefully attrition will be less like a revolving door.

I just hope this class fills needs for next season with quality players and VFLs.

Very good points. That is the way to intelligently discuss the article. LOL.

I think we are getting there, but unfortunately this may be a difficult year for us. I still have hope that Butch turns a difficult situation into a great class. I think he can. I just had no idea we were in this situation until I read the article.

Read it...need that time back. Parting question, how is any of that a "fact", when signing day hasn't occurred yet?

Bama is absolutely the #1 recruiting juggernaut and what Saban is doing is unheard of in modern college football. If you compare to literally all other programs we are doing great. Also Butch's 3 recruiting classes we have now are gona take Bama down in Knoxville next year.

I know it is tempting to dismiss the entire article, but it is a fact that there is less talent in TN this year, that we don't have a recruit who is recruiting like we did the last few years, etc. I read things objectively. I guess if I read with the idea to discredit it right from the beginning it would be pointless to read it. I think any objective person who reads it will admit it makes some good points and we are in a difficult situation versus the last two recruiting years. LOL

With all of the upheaval now at UGA, USC, Bama, Mizzou, LSU, Auburn.....we should Shirley be able to make up some ground somewhere....

Where are you getting that people are discrediting it prior to reading it? I am seeing posts where people are stating that they have read it, that they disagree with it, and you dismiss that opinion, because it does not jibe with yours. The only comment from you that I have seen that is complimentary of another poster is one that agreed with you. There is nothing wrong with objectivity, I have to use it every single day in my job, but you seem to be falling all over yourself to demonstrate how objective you are by endorsing this man's opinion.

LOL. There are people on here who say that they did not read it. Is that good enough for you? I take it you did not read all the posts on this thread. What you just wrote is 100% incorrect. Go back and read all the posts.

You seem pretty invested in the thread, defending it to the death. You either wrote the article or posted it expecting a lot of props and agreement. It's a msg board, some will agree and some won't.

In short, the article is posted and you can do whatever you want with it. I am the type of guy who uses the internet as a place to gain information and I was just sharing this information. I hope the article is wrong at the end of the singing class. Go Vols and all of you have a great weekend.

Neither. I expected an intelligent discuss about it, but I guess I expected too much. LOL.
