Article: Looks Like Down Year for Recruiting

Do we just ignore all articles and information out there? It is a Tennessee site and I am a Tennessee fan. I am also the kind of guy who like information and facts, and that is why I posted it--not just hollow posts with no substance.

Then actually pay attention for yourself. Guys are being told to look elsewhere to make room for , I don't know , better players. Click bait is all this is. More reputable sites are saying the class will be too 10 with top 5 possible. Go check out the RF and guys we are on on.

SMH.

Don't understand why people question recruiting. The reason why we may have a "down" year is because Butch Jones set the bar so high.
Butch has def recruited at an elite level, but UT was pulling top 5 classes in the Fulmer era too...this is not something that only Butch has done here. He deserves a lot of credit for what he's done here so far, and he's got us recruiting against the big boys again, but it's not like it's never been done before.

LOL. No I did not write it. I just read it. Maybe the word "bad" was the wrong word to put in the title of this thread. I should have used "down year" or something else. Read the article. It looks pretty solid on the facts.

Thanks for posting the article. I appreciate reading all things Vols, positive and "negative". I like a realistic look at how things are going, where things stand, which is what this article is IMO. So it's not gonna be a great recruiting year in 2016. I'm sure we'll wind up top 15 and fill some needs, build more depth. 2017 is the year to really make hay.

It's not been done while we've been down since Majors in the late 70s early 80s

I went back and re-read the article and just don't see it as that negative. It pretty much states what we already know. Instate recruits are down in numbers and quality for 2016. We knew that. We are beginning to see the reshaping of the commitment list. With us in on so many top kids, we knew the list had to change. It should come as no surprise that we will hit on some of these "top tier" kids and miss on others. With a potential class of 20-22, we will have a top 15 class, but not a top 10. However, the quality and fit of the 2016 class will be top 10. As we have seen over the past couple of weeks, the staff is going after those that we need in the class. The results will come. It's tough being patient.

I think the article has some good points and facts. Is it perfect? No. But there is no way to comment on it intelligently if you don't read it. What you are writing is pure speculation since you did not read it.

The article's main point is that the lack of a dominant peer and\or legacy recruiter is hampering us this year. My question to you is who, apart from the kids we are already in on, would we have a shot at if we had one?

I can't think of a single one.

LOL. There are people on here who say that they did not read it. Is that good enough for you? I take it you did not read all the posts on this thread. What you just wrote is 100% incorrect. Go back and read all the posts.

I was not referring to those who said that they did not read it. There are some who did not say whether they read it or not and some, like me, who have read it in its entirety, and think there are very little facts, weak opinion, and is, "click bait," as others have postulated. And, I refuse to use LOL in my post, because I think it infers that you are laughing at somebody's opinion, and that is insulting. I realize that you were not the first to LOL, but you have thoroughly embraced this particular concept.

Oh, so where is Saban setting the bar since they get a top 5 recruiting class EVERY year and don't have a "down" year in recruiting?

Do you really believe that UT can recruit as well as Bama every year after what they have done?

This class was going to small to begin with, and we haven't even turned the calendar yet. Let the man do his thing. My goodness, some of our fans.

Yes, I lived through those years. But Fulmer didn't always stack up consecutive top 10 classes either. He had one or two and then would have one that was top 20 or 25. Let Butch Jones do what he does best. After 3 years, why are we questioning this class and we aren't even at the end of December? I am not saying that it hasn't been done before; I am just saying that he has time and even if he finished top 15-20, it doesn't mean the class is "bad." It is a small class, and it's about needs.

At the tail end of his career, but mid 90's-2005 were stacking top classes.

It's splitting hairs, but every 3rd year, his classes dropped a bit. 1995 and 1998 were not consensus top 10. 1999 was a bad class, which was surprising after the championship. 2003 and 2004 were both barely top 20.

Recruiting Rankings weren't the problem.

Player evals were - 2002 was a top 3 recruiting class - absolutely full of busts.

Bump. Even though we have a new thread on this topic, we shouldn't let this thread from literally yesterday get overlooked.

Thank you so much for doing this!! I had already forgotten what kind of recruiting year we may or may not be having with 7.5 weeks left until NSD.

That's good info. That's not gonna go down ether as we fill out the rest of this class IMO.
