Article: Looks Like Down Year for Recruiting

We need consistent top 10-13 classes to compete for a title every 2-3 years. We can't be having classes ranked 20-25. Get it fixed Butch or someone else will.

Ok. So you guys would rather have 25 recruits averaging Mid 80s on 247 if it improves our team ranking? I don't understand what's wrong with the 19th rated class with 15 guys averaging nearly 90 as a group on 247. It means we're bringing in the exact level of talent as last year. Only fewer players. Id rather Butch be selective now that he's flipped the roster. Why fill roster spots just for a ranking? I guess the guys who are actually gona be winning games for us need others to tackle in practice, or maybe we should try to keep up the pace of guys processed out during the roster rebuild.

Bob Welton just said on air he is excited about where this class is. Probably won't rank as high because of limited numbers but he is excited most of these guys won't be forced to play right away.

Which is what we should hope for. A year in the weight room/film room does wonders for players right out of high school unless they're absolute beasts.

That being said, I think we'll end up with a couple high end recruits to cap this class off.

I've also noticed Butch hasn't pulled out the flashy recruiting campaigns like any hashtags or the bucket hat days for Khalil. I wonder the reason.

Now that you mention it, Coach Jones has been oober quiet on the recruiting trail this year in comparision to years past. Not sure why, but it is definitely reflecting in our commitment list. Where is Tommy Thigpen in all of this? He was a beast on the recruiting trail in year one.

In my humble (read: egotistical) opinion, I think we look for the big splash signing day this go round. Just looking at the visitors list for the 29th and how many open spots we have. If we close with 5-6 top players on signing day, especially if we close out the bowl game in style and winning 9 games, we would carry a giant amount of momentum into the offseason. 2017 will be a loaded class for us and likely a larger class as well.

I fell for this too many times in the past. I will believe it when/IF it happens. :hi:

I just want to say that blaming 'peer recruitment' and especially singling out Jarrett Guarantano and on top of that speculating that he might not have a good personality because he couldn't lure Rashan Gary or Kareem Walker here is just asinine and really pi$$es me off coming from a Tenn site. This writer needs to take some flak for that from Vol fans - BIG TIME!

Good grief!

but he doesn't seem to have the right personality to bring other players to Knoxville.

Nowhere does that suggest JG doesn't have a "good" personality. He's not been an effective
recruiter, and we all thought he would be.

Where are you getting that people are discrediting it prior to reading it? I am seeing posts where people are stating that they have read it, that they disagree with it, and you dismiss that opinion, because it does not jibe with yours. The only comment from you that I have seen that is complimentary of another poster is one that agreed with you. There is nothing wrong with objectivity, I have to use it every single day in my job, but you seem to be falling all over yourself to demonstrate how objective you are by endorsing this man's opinion.

DV, the guy is a lawyer, that's what he gets paid to do!:banghead2:

You mad bro :)

I see you made the same mistake as the poster that you quoted: Both of you failed to read the posts in this thread where posters admitting not reading the article and yet they dismissed it offhand. I guess birds of a feather do flock together. :loco: That can happen when you are too blinded by bias.
