In this case, I'd say it's more of taking shots at the guy who claims to be smarter than 99.5% of Volnation while using the same laughing smiley in almost every post.I have read this entire thread as well, and first let me preface this question with this statement. I AM NOT TAKING ANYONE'S SIDE. But I have a question that I would like an honest answer to from the posters to which it applies. My question is, why do all these posters defend hatvol like he is the leader of this board or something? An honest response is appreciated from all to which this inquiry is relevant.

Who's defending anybody?
Didn't ask about him; I am asking about hatvol's defenders. And to the poster who said who is defending anyone, it is clear, if you have read this thread, what posters are siding with and defending hatvols statements. I just want to know why they do it, are you friends? family? coworkers?

So if you disagree with St. Bruce then you are "siding with and defending hatvols statements".
Brilliant!
It can't be that we agree with the statements?
Never said that. I do not post very often, but I do read most threads on Volnation daily. It has become clear to me by reading these threads that there are certain posters that side with Hatvol if a dispute arises. I do not care that they side with him, I just want to know why (see original post).
I'm really not sure what you want us to say? If you're asking why we'll take his side over someone like Saint Bruce, it's because Hat has been posting for years and it's very clear he knows what he's talking about, while people like Saint Bruce simply exalt their favorite team.Of course it can, I was just asking a question; If that question does not apply to you then obviously no response is necessary. I agree with SOME things that both Hatvol and St. Bruce have said. I also DISAGREE with some things that BOTH posters have said.

Kiffin never ran around acting as if he was some sort of martyr for turning down jobs he was never offered. Kiffin was offered a better job, then took it. Period. Pearl did everything in his power to get the Indiana and Arizona jobs, couldn't even get an interview either place, then acted as if it was his loyalty to good ole UT that kept him in Knoxville. I don't think the difference is hard to discern.
Good post. I'd agree that Pearl has done a lot for UT basketball. However, I'm not going to pretend I'm as optimistic as I was a few years ago. The end result this season was nice, but to be me there is no doubt that the last two and a half years weren't nearly as good as the first two and a half under Pearl. Has he revitalized the program? Absolutely. After the Memphis game a few years ago that led to the number 1 ranking, I would have defended Pearl as much as many other people, and I'm not really sure there are a whole lot of guys that could have done a better job. However, a few years later, there are still things that Pearl has to prove he can do to get UT where everyone here wants them to be.Wow what a thread...
All I KNOW is Pearl has done more for TN basketball than any other coach since Ray Mears, and as far as I'm concerned MORE than Ray Mears since Ray Mears never got us to the Elite 8 (and I wasn't old enough to watch those teams anyway).
For that he deserves our gratitude and support as long as he wears the orange and gives his best. If he keeps it up at this pace and does eventually leave in 2 or 3 years, he will have clearly moved us up more than a notch in the basketball powerhouse 'scales' - we'll be able to get a solid coach and continue the momentum.
When Pearl came UT basketball was a joke. Now we are national contenders. That's good enough for me.
