I think he called in a bomb threat at his apartment, but it was just a distraction for the police to go out there while he was at the theater.

They just showed his apartment on tv saying they expect a big explosion. They are acting like they can't get in because it's too dangerous. If this is true , this sounds crazier than a movie itself.

I always shake my head at the idea that more guns in a situation somehow makes things safer. Yeah, you could take out the shooter before they kill more people, but the chance is just as great that having a bunch of people carrying will create more problems.

I see a lot of wannabee Charles Bronsons today, though, thinking they would've taken the guy out given the opportunity. In the chaos of a smoky theater at midnight with people scattering and screaming everywhere, I find it hard to believe.

In too many cases of this sort in the past there have been people in the crowd who had the proper training and discipline and were also in the right position to make an attempt with minimal chance of harming others. Most see not having their side arm at the time as a mistake.

The reports comimg out are detailed enough to indicate some people saw the gunman clearly enough. I'm not advocating untrained individuals blasting away through the smoke as that would clearly lead to more injuries and death. But in a crowd of 300 if 10% were armed, chances are 2 or 3 out of that 30 would have been in a position to do something. Plus, if he knew there was a chance that 30 people could have been armed he may not have made the attempt. Again, all of this is speculation...

I think the amount of people he shot was 70 something. I don't think it's the worst as far as deaths. Just wounded. They said the people in the theater thought it was part of the movie when it started. You know , the only thing I want to know is why? What was the goal for this scumbag? That is the answer we never get. Usually these people kill themself before they get caught. They got this nut alive , but I doubt he has a reason why.

You always wonder what is going on in the mind of these people just days or hours before they commit their act. Honestly, it's infuriating.

Someone cannot be in control of their minds in that situation. I used to say that was no excuse, but not any more. I still think he should be hung though, and his brain studied.

They won't release his mugshot. I really don't get that one. Why do that? A guy went on a shooting/killing spree in Alabama and they wasted no time showing his face on tv. They just keep showing his crazy picture from a few years back. Why not show him?

One person, with one concealed handgun license, one handgun and one bullet could have saved so many lives. We need LESS gun laws, not more. When are they going to figure out that gun laws don't matter to criminals??

Stricter gun laws only take guns away from law abiding citizens. "Bad guys" will always continue to get them. The more guns for good folk the better.

I just fail to understand why people having more bullets flying around in that theater would have made things better. That's not really intended as a commentary on gun control laws, it just seems to me, that if more people are shooting in a dark, crowded theater, odds are that even more innocent people would have been shot in the confusion.
