Atlanta Braves Thread (I HURT MYSELF TODAY TO SEE IF I STILL FEEL)

Fan base is split into 2 groups :

Those who settle for 8 wins a year and those who demand better

How's all that demanding going? Been a long decade I imagine. Keep demanding. Shuffling deck chairs always turns out well.

No it's not.

I can say I want a championship coach and want to upgrade and still say Butch Jones isn't a bad coach. He isn't. He's done a great job rebuilding. He hasn't gotten UT to the level it can be. If he can't get it done and we move on that's fine. But I'm not gonna act like he's the worst coach in America because people love the sky is falling narrative

Whoa.. easy bro. Can't be logical

There's a thread on here asking people who their 3 favorite signees this year are, would those of you in here who watch film and keep up with it answer this? Most people in there had different answers. I'd say leave Smith out, that's an obvious one.

Leave Chandler out too then, cause he's just as obvious IYAM

Everyone has different expectations. I'm not happy with a coach that's 2-2 against Vandy or can't beat Muschamp. I just believe UT can do better than a 8 win a year coach.

You're right, changing certainly opens the door to things getting worse. So how many 8-4 or worse seasons will it take for you to reach a point where you think we should look for something better?

When "expectations" haven't been met in over a decade most people/business/organizations/industries/governments/etc etc etc reassess expectations and formulate real ones. Otherwise, you exist in a fantasyland and sound as such.

I don't think employing Butch Jones and looking for something better are mutually exclusive. The moment something better is REALISTICALLY achievable we should act on it.

I also think it's crazy to assume he will never win the East because it didn't happen this year. There are so many variables to every play, player, team, game, opponent, and season that speaking in absolutes that far out is comical. But that's JMO

Who can do that can we hire?

Who that can we hire?

Gruden
Cower
Shaw
Dungy

Just to name a few

Where we honestly F'd up was not giving dooley his walking papers and promoting Wilcox to HC when it came down to one or the other IYAM

Wilcox on a budget salary we like to dish out and a prime time OC would have been nice

Then why do you guys act like he's the worst coach ever?!?!

If I've ever insinuated that, then my bad. I don't think he's the worst coach ever, I just don't think he's capable of bringing us any further along than we are. After a disappointing season, I just don't have the stomach to hear about life champions and five stars in their hearts.

I'm not for "change for changes sake", but I think the writing is on the wall for Jones. If we had the opportunity to shlt can him and get Chip Kelly, we should have done it. If there weren't any better options, then I'll say the right decision was made.

You mean lower their expectations ? Not happening with me and thankfully a good portion of the fan base.

Enjoy living a miserable, bitter TN fan existence then.

Sorry I don't follow sports to ram panties up my ass or unnecessarily work myself into cardiac arrest and dwell in doom and gloom. Lighten up. Breathe some fresh air. Enjoy the scenery.

And unless you write significantly large checks to the university-no one up there gives a damn what you demand or even want for that matter.

But look on the bright side - at least leveon bell is hurt every playoffs, ben is about to retire, and the diva WR you likely hate for no reason may get traded. DEMAND MORE

Long story short, these dumbasses cancelled my account because they had the wrong address on my account. Took a few hours to get my service back. Basically I twice asked after this happened if my old account was good and I owed nothing. Good to go. Of course three months later I get a call from an agency asking for money by charter. No letter, no phone call, no nothing. I call and of course just absolutely instead of helping and taking care of it they did absolutely nothing. Just ridiculous.

Damn. I've never had a problem with them.

And the discussion got to this point...

Brown's right. This is not a top 10 program. This is a has-been program without a good recruiting base. This is a program that's gone pretty close to .667 (i.e, 8-4) since the General hung it up sixty years ago. This year's recruits were seven years old the last time UT even played in the SECCG. We have no birthright anymore.

I'm not saying we have to accept 8-4 as our level and throw ourselves into tailgating like they did at Ole Miss for so many years. But we're not gonna win championships again until we hit a home run with a great young coach, and we're probably not going to be able to hire that coach unless he thinks we're the best job available, and we're not gonna be the best job available if we chew up and spit out coaches every 3-4 years like clockwork. I have grown to loathe Jones as much as the next guy but I bet that from within the coaching profession what he's done looks like a helluva rebuilding job, with merely inconclusive results so far.

In the perfect world we'd have had an incisive, aggressive AD who might have shltcanned Jones after that Vandy loss and immediately gone hard after somebody like Willie Taggart and reeled him in. But that's not what we've got, and given that I think that we're probably going to have to let itself play out awhile longer. As impatient as most of us are.

I've also never seen a coach criticize and publicly bench his players like he does and they respond so well. It shows they he cares about his guys when they respond like that.

Mrs Verc has a close friend whose husband was recruited by Barnes to Clemson, and even though Barnes jumped to Texas before the guy enrolled they have apparently maintained some kind of relationship for all these years. He told me Barnes is one of the best people he's ever met. Loves the guy. Watches all UT games now. Etc.
