I think my moment was in 97 or 98, Milwood threw a 2 hitter against the Pirates. First game I went to at Turner.

Millwood might be the perfect example of Leo Mazzone's greatness. Dude was an all star in Atlanta and was meh when he left

I think a lot has to do with what kind of player you enjoy watching. I enjoyed Tony Gwynn and Wade Boggs type of players. High average and OBP players.

I enjoy watching slap and tickle hitters as much as anyone, but they're not more valuable than the power hitters who hit 30+ homers. All the significant sluggers are more valuable that the Gwynn/Rose types.

I was talking baseball with an old friend, and he brought up a guy I had forgotten about, but cheered harder for him than most....

Johnny Estrada.

I was playing the sporacle braves opening day lineup game and totally forgot he was the catcher between Lopez and Mac.

There was never any Leo Mazzone greatness. He had three Hall of Famers who never got hurt. Then he went to Baltimore and did nothing with their pitching staff and got fired. McDowell's better than Mazzone ever was.

I agree with some of that but Mazzone had some other moments. Had good bullpens without elite arms, guys like Russ Ortix, millwood. Pete Smith.

McDowell is hella good.

I was thinking, I feel bad for the people that didn't get to watch teams with Maddox, Glavine, Smoltz, Javy, Chipper, Klesko. Those guys were my childhood.

Mazzone helped destroy Steve Avery, who should have been better than both Glavine and Smolz. He was the one with the most promise, and Cox/Mazzone killed his arm. I don't GAF about Kevin Millwood.

That's fair but baseball was different too.

It wasn't that different. The Mets had recently destroyed Dwight Gooden's arm, and Gooden could have been the greatest pitcher ever. It should have been obvious to the Braves that they needed to baby Steve Avery a little bit; he was only 21. And yet Cox and Mazzone rode him hard and killed his career. Leo Mazzone is a fraud, as far as I'm concerned.

Touchy subject, huh? Lol
