It wasn't all that far from center...

These guys in the big leagues are so strong. Hitting a ball like that with a piece of wood must feel awesome.

It was maybe 20 feet into right center. Wherever it was, he hit it a ton. Just dropped the head of the bat on it.

To be fair, both those pitches were at the knees.

The one to Choo might have been even slightly below the knees. The pitches just weren't that bad. But that's what happens when a major league hitter is sitting dead red on fastball and gets it.

What the hell does location have to do with not throwing his breaking pitches? These are f'ing major league hitters, they can time a jet at the knees or at the chest. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE ALL SITTING ON THE LOW FASTBALL AT THE KNEES.

All about confidence. I bet he felt best throwing his FB.

Also I'd bet a majority of big leaguers can't hit that pitch. 95+, Not in the middle of the plate is tough no matter what the hitter may be looking for.

Actually . . . Just watched the replay and the ball was closer to the 370 sign than dead CF. that's a warning track fly ball everywhere else . . . Not that it matters.

No way he's throwing a breaking all on the 3-2 pitch that turned into the 1st HR.

And for all the talk about velocity, he blew away Votto last night.

And when you add the fact that the fastball velocity is down it is retarded not to be utilizing the entire repertoire.

fangraphs has his average velo virtually the same as his career numbers. they do have him throwing his 2 seamer about twice as much as last year, so maybe he is trying to add that in.

just don't know why you would ever throw that breaking pitch less.

Another thing for the VN pitching coaches to learn is that nasty curve isn't the same when a lefty gets to watch it all the way in.

Maybe he wouldn't be in that count if he utilized it earlier in the at bat. And why not? They are sitting on the heat. He can throw his breaking pitches for strikes consistently.

Fangraph can say whatever it wants. Last year he sat around 97 and could go get 99 when he needed it. This year it is an act of God if he hits 97.
